Could be possible to grow woodloving species out of a Trichocereus(San Pedro)cactus?

Paul Stamets said in GGMM (page 46):
" An oyster mushroom, Pleurotus opuntiae, is native to prickly pear, agave, and yuca. Although I have not cultivated oyster mushrooms on these cacti, they shoul serve as well as a substrate base".

Could be possible to grow woodloving species out of a live Trichocereus(San Pedro)cactus or dried cutting?

Probably the opuntiae would do alright, but I doubt your average woodlover would work on dry cactus, especially the flesh.

I think maybe you should make a 50/ 50 % mix of dry cactus and the wood. It might make for same crazy 'non psychoactive shrooms'. Interesting concept. In fact you could be growing a non psychoactive species on a psychoactively additived substrate thereby producing some weird effects. That is quite interesting but the presence of the mescaline , once tested in a laboratory, will still make your batch of legal shrooms grown on that stuff, kinda illegal. But I think it would work if you added a mix of normal substrate with whatever else youw ant the 'shrooms' to do to you... psychedelic shiitakes are an astute possibility, now that Ive thought about your post... most interesting.!
