monotub harvest ?

a foaf has his first monotub going and had a really uneven pinset some of the shrooms are ready to be harvested but he is still getting lots of new pins. Should he just harvest the ones that are ready and let the rest mature or harvest the whole tub in hopes of a more even pinset on the second flush? I am using Wronguy's double tub tek and he says to harvest all shrooms within 24 hours. It would be a shame to harvest all the pins that are growing so healthy. Any advise would be appreciated.

i disagree with the "you must harvest within 24 hours" thinking.

pick the ones that are mature, and watch, the other pins will get a shot at it and start taking off on you. we call those ones that sprouted up early "volunteers" :smile:

if you catch them at an earlier stage next time in the future, you can even out your pinset and end up better in the long run... once there's some big fruits growing, they begin to rob energy and resources from the rest of the network that's still trying to develop pins.

don't ever pick pins off unless you're sure they've aborted.

Thanks for the advise thats what my friend is going to do. Pick the ripe fruits tonight and let the rest go.

I would say pick them in as short a time frame as possible but 24 hrs is just a guideline.

yeah dude

i harvested all the big ones and the next day i harvested the rest

ran out of room in the dehydrator, everything keeps growing and is fine just dont damage them

During the cropping faze of the 1st flush primordia and pins for the second flush will grow.

Only pick the first flush fully grown mushrooms and let the second flush pins grow.

I cut the caps off of the ones that are way more advanced than others if the others are still growing. This will allow the straggelers to catch up without disturbing the myc or causing them to go into "repair mode" from picking. But I only do this if I can tell the others aren't going to catch up within a day. It also keeps a huge purple mess at bay with my Creepers. :laugh:
