I always just used a fan to do it. Works fine for me.
With some types I tie a thin piece of string around the stem and hang them somewhere.

Fan works great, or if it's sunny out put them outside for a bit.

I would go with fan drying. Im relatively new but have tried dehydraters and they tend to burn and smell. Just be patient and It'll turn out good in the end. Peace

I place mine on a dehydrator tray, and put it on top of a fan for about 24 hours, then about 36 in a plastic garbage bag with the shrooms on a tray right above the desiccant( i just put the desiccant in a gallon water jug cut in half, with holes in the bottom on top of a nother jug cut in half to let it drip, although it usually just starts to liquify just a bit. putting em in a dehydrator causes them to lose potency due to heat, im pretty sure fan drying oxidizes some psilocybin, but is necessary, cause if u try to put freshones in a desiccant chamber, the desiccant wont keep up with the humidity release form the shrooms if that makes any sense

My advice is to sprinkle some ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) on the fresh shrooms before drying. This is particularly hepful when drying shrooms like Pan.cyan,etc. prevents them from turning blue. Next, fan dry then desiccant dry.

Fan drying works... to an extent. It will get them dry, but not cracker dry. A fan will dry them to the humidity percentage your house is at. So if you live in Florida and don't use AC (god help you), then your mushrooms will only get about 50-70% dry at most.
Food dehydrators use heat, that could lower the potency.
If you want to store them long hand, they need to go in a desiccant chamber. They're easy to make and last forever. I made mine about 2 years ago and still have it.
I found a big ass half gallon jar, bought a big tub of damp rid, and poured it in the bottom. I got some chicken wire and bent it so that I had a platform that was about an inch or two above the desiccant. I put a coffee filter over the chicken wire to prevent mushrooms from falling through. Fan dry the mushrooms first then toss them in the chamber. Your mushrooms will last "forever" that way. I just left mine in the chamber until it was time for them to be used.
If you have some super dense or large mushrooms (ie: gyms) it might be best to cut them up into thinner slices or they will take too long to dry and will get moldy.

IMO a fan and 3-5 days maybe longer, maybe not but then you will have cracker dry mushrooms i never notice potency loss
i find it best to brake/tear the caps up in pieces like gumby said they tend to dry faster when in small ammounts

I use a food dehydrator set at the lowest setting of 90 degrees. And that works perfectly. It'll dry most mushrooms within 24 hours.
