discoloration of stems
    #5856163 - 07/13/06 09:39 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I have two mushrooms that show a dark discoloration on the stems near the cap.  On one, there's what looks like a tear and I can see the white underneath.  I think it is probably nothing at all(it doesn't look like fungus of any sort), but I'd like to ask anyway.

By the way, the last topic I started was about fuzz and I was advised to do nothing.  You guys were right.  It was not a problem.

is the discoloration a shade of blue, green or purple?

If it's purple/brown it's spores dropping. if its blue or green, it's bruising... an indication of dry substrate.

at least from my experience, that's what most of the discolorations are.

hope that helps

It's brown.

Thx.

Also, this post brought up a bunch of other posts because of the keyword(brown). This one, for instance: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/319298
