Need some help
    #5855788 - 07/13/06 07:36 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I found 2 different (not sure if different but looked different) types of shrooms in a pasture where goats were living, located in Southeast Texas. The largest, around 4 inches in diameter, of the two was dried with purple rings on the top. The bottoms was white with brown specs. The stem was missing.

The second type were smaller, around 2.5 inches in diameter, had a maroon inner section that turned into a yellow and then a white to light brown ring on the outside. The stems were hearty and about an inch in diameter. Around the top of the stem was the maroon coloring like on the top center. On the tops of these where the maroon and yellow met it looked as if there was a jelly type substance.

Can you help me identify these and if they are deadly or if they can be eaten.

The stem was not missing, it never existed lol. Neither of those mushrooms are of any culinary or hallucinogenic value. Sorry mate.

Those are Ganoderma species. There are purported medical benefits, but the science hasn't quite caught up with the hype. Very interesting though, and potentially promising shrooms. But like my buddy App says, no culinary or hallucinogenic value. Do a google search for Ganoderma lucidum or Ganoderma tsugae to learn more about these species.
