car radiator question

o basically i have an 95 honda acccord lx
ok lateley my car has been using alot of water, like every 2 days ive been filing the thing with it. However it has also been very hot.
TOday after work on my way home i noticed that the heat was on (MAX) like over the red line. SO i instantly pulled over and opened it. After waiting a while i drove like 1 m ile.. which wasnt smart. It got red hott again.
I left my car, came back 2 hrs later and put like 5 galons or something of water into it. I saw two small leaks probably the width of a mouse wire or less. THis meant that even if i kept putting water in, you would see it go down ..slowwlyyy..
SO my questions is this:
If i bring a whole bunch of water with me, and every 30 mins or so fill it up again is this safe to drive? Or doing this is very stupid? My grandpa seems to say that as long as i keep adding water itl be fine.
However How much is too low? at what level does it get dangerous? Is it just when it begins to get hotter how long do you guys think i should go between filling water again.
id reallly apreciate some input cuz i gota go somewhere soon. Like an hr drive.

Water alone can cause damage. You need to fix the leak. You can tempararliy fix it with a simple additive. You can probably buy it at a local gas station. Add the "stop leak" solution to your anti-freeze/water mix. That should help you out for a bit.
What you SHOULD do, if you can't fix the leak yourself is to take it to a radiator shop and get it fixed. You can't just continue to add water all the time and expect your car to continue to run smoothly. Your radiator is what keeps your engine semi cool. If you keep letting that get extremely hot, imagine what is happening to your engine.
Best advise, IMO, get it fixed.

Is there oil in the radiator water that you can see and a coolant smell in the exhaust with lots of smoke coming out the exhaust? If so, you've got a blown head-gasket, I'm sorry to say.

If he blew a head gasket, chances are, he'd know.
Loud knocking, lots of smoke and in most cases, the car won't restart once it's shut off.

Cars don't run well on just water. They need coolant.
Not only that, but if your radiator is leaking, that means it can't hold pressure, and the system NEEDS to hold pressure.
Using just water, and not having a pressurized radiator... that combination lowers the efficiency of the system. So even when it is full, it's going to work poorly.
Coolant raises the boiling point, pressure raises the boiling point... without those two, the water boils too easily, and the engine will get fairly hot even when the system is full of water.
That'll also fuck with your emissions as well.

Yeah, you need to replace the radiator (if that's what's leaking) or the hoses. If the leak is occuring in the engine, that'll be a bitch.
Another temporary fix if you're low on water is to run your heat on max with the windows down. Your heating gets heat straight from the engine, so that'll cool it down some. (that's why it takes a while for your car to "warm up" in the winter". A/C hurts.
