slow g2g growth
    #5855180 - 07/13/06 04:10 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

This is my first g2g. spores were used to inoculate millet in quart jars. These jars sat since 4-2 unrefrigerated. How much aging could have occurred because of this? Should I spawn bulk substrate with 2nd generation to avoid senescence? Of these jars I have thus far used 3 to spawn 10 jars each of millet.the first batch done on 7-8 is almost complete, while the second 2 batches done on 7-11 are showing much slower signs of recovery. Some jars show almost no growth. The strain for these 3 is Koh Samui. The only difference in substrate is that the first batch had more bursted seeds and might have been wetter. I believe there is sufficient moisture content in the millet. Why would the first batch grow faster if its the same strain?

senesence(sp) wont happen through cloning or g2g for quite a while I believe... something like hundreds of clones/g2g transfers... I wouldn't worry about that.

And the first batch may grow faster because of moisture content (like you stated) or the grains from your g2g didnt have super strong genetics on your 2nd batch.. Could be a host of reasons, but I know that the whole senesence(sp) thing doesn't happen for a while, and it usually only happens when you clone, and print and print and print and print and print andthen clone and print, etc etc for 100 times or so.

I'm probably wrong, since I'm not too 'into' the whole genetics thing, but from what i've read, it takes quite a while for your strain to run dry.

It's probably just an issue with your substrate.

Senesence only occurs from repeated subculturing. Not from using prints or spores.

Allowing the strain to complete the sexual cycle by using it's spores is what reinvigorates it and prevents eventual senesence.
