I justed spawned Dr. Bluethumbs compost with rye. I made up two foil baking trays. I?m keeping my fingers crossed.
In vitro pinning (sorry about the quality)
More invitro pinning
Broken up colonised rye
After mixing compost and rye
In casing tray

Josha, a few comments and question for you.
First of all i?m very excited to see a fresh start of another great documentation of Josha and his PRs. Lets hope the compost works out for you this time. I?m not totally sure but compost is usually fully colonized right and then either fruited like that or a casing layer is applied? Moreover, I have a question for you. I?ve been using rye lately and I?ve had no problems getting both quarts and pints to fully colonizes in less than 2 weeks. However, when I case them, in all the different ways i?ve tried (with the GC strain) I get many but small shrooms. Now, I think this is either:
a. the strain; or:
b. the substrate / casing layer depth.
I?m very sure my humidity and other enviromental controls are ideal. Just wonder what you would suggest. I?m going to try some B+ on rye the same way I grow GCs to see if it might just be the strain but with that size of container you showed usually how much rye do you use and how much of a bottom / top casing layer?
Thank you very much if you can help me.

Josha, JOSHUA a few comments and question for you.
First of all i?m very excited to see a fresh start of another great documentation of Josha JOSHUA and his PRs. Lets hope the compost works out for you this time. I?m not totally sure but compost is usually fully colonized right and then either fruited like that or a casing layer is applied?
-Absolutely right.
-I would guess b. I haven?t grown GC yet, but have heard nothing about smaller fruits from them.
I?m very sure my humidity and other enviromental controls are ideal. Just wonder what you would suggest.
-For fruiting keep humidity @ %85 and temp @ 75 F. You have a range on either side of these figures at which you will still have success. Also purchase The Mushroom Cultivator by Paul Stamets.
I?m going to try some B+ on rye the same way I grow GCs to see if it might just be the strain but with that size of container you showed usually how much rye do you use and how much of a bottom / top casing layer?
-I usually put 1/4-1/2 inch of verm or casing mix on the bottom. Layer at least an inch of substrate and then another 1/2-1 inch in casing. You should layer your casing @ 3/4-1 inch for shallow substrate layers (TMC).
Thank you very much if you can help me.
-I would not suggest fruiting from grain. Grain is usually used to spawn a bulk substrate such as straw or compost. The mycelium has a hard time penetrating the grain completely, therefor you lose the ability for the mycelium to fix a large percentage of nutrients available for flushes. Instead you may see lighter fruitings extended over time.
-I know a lot of you out there fruit off of rye. Maybe someone else has some ideas as well regarding this topic.

I believe it is called leachate (sp?). As the mycelium advances through the substrate it pushes the excess compost juice (leachate) out of the substrate, thus forming piss colored drops.
I could be BSing you though.

Also happens with dung or dung/straw mixtures. Sometimes making a whole bunch of nasty ass yellow jelly, seems to be harmless though. Attempts at removing it showed no benefit over simply leaving it and casing over it, even when the substrate was almost entirely covered with it.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

Man Sheri?s is alright. That skillet I put away was mighty tasty. I had no idea country-fried sausage was such a heavy narcotic.
Hope you enjoyed that pie. I can imagine you eating a few grams of Cams and sliding that whole pie down at once.
Heh good meeting you too. That seminar was the cat?s ass. Washington is a great state and the marijuana I sampled was nice too.
Peace.
