holes in top of spawn container?

I know that you poke holes in the top of the tin foil that you put over the container your substrate is colonizing in, but if you put a plastic top on a plastic container and drill holes in it is it ok to put micro pore tape over the holes. I have trouble with trich and think this may help. thanks

your trich most likely came from the spawning process, not from the pinholes in the lid/covering.
also look into making your spawing a bit cleaner of a process.

yup, for smaller casings i use disposable gladware containers, melt a hole or two in the lid with a soldering iron (careful poking holes, it usually cracks, use something hot to burn a hole through instead) and then do exactly that, micropore over it. works great and is reusable - when done take tape off, toss in dishwasher, put some new tape on and you're back in business for the next spawn run.
agreed w/above that the contam problems are probably coming from elsewhere but this also has the benefit of holding in moisture during colonization.

any suggestions to make my spawning cleaner. I use the cooler tek. then just mix the shit in. I find it hard to make this very sterile. Maybe draining the poo while its still in the pillow case, then adding the colonized WBS into the pillow case, then mix it all up and quickly transport it from the pillow case to the container?

oust for one.
clean surfaces, still air, quick work, draining the poo in the pillowcase is a good idea, no need to mix in the pillowcase, do so in a clean circular tub or whatever, listerine, medical/sugical grade mask, shower cap, clean body, clean clothes,
you know, clean and quick.
mis en place.
