I think I'm happy maintaining my weight
    #5853727 - 07/13/06 03:31 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

While my food habits really suck (though to be fair, they've improved vastly in the last while) I run so much it really doesn't fluctuate that much, so I've decided to screw loosing weight (I'll probably get some sort of epiphany tomorrow)

Realize that diet is the most important thing. You could eat a healthy diet and it would be all you'd need beyond your daily activities so long as you walk and do stuff.

It's hard to achieve a healthy diet when free soda is all around you

I now feel a strange urge to go run (I finally stopped being a bitch and now I'm doing five miles), but I really want to go into the city tonight...maybe I'll run later tonight, night runs are more calming anyway

Something I'll never argue with.... nutrition is certainly key. No ifs, ands or buts.

I work in a Call Center, mang. They hand out candy, soda and junk food all the time. I hate it and complain to management all the time. It's too easy for people to get hefer.

I don't drink soda anymore. Having delved into dieting and nutrition research... I just look at soda and see evil, fizzy, insulin spiking, destructive death. Drink water instead.

While I do agree, I'm a hypocrite in the sense that I'm eating cereal as I type this (I am doing better in using water as substitute for drink, but I need to do better on using it to quelch arbitrary hunger)

Hey, I'm a hypocrite too. I just try to practice what I preach. I drank half a mountain dew yesterday (for the first time in a while) because of a migrane I had.... heh, poor excuse but I was craving it. I couldn't finish the rest though... knowing what's in that shit is too scary.

As far as being hungry's concerned, eat small meals throughout the day to keep yourself mentally satisfied. More meals helps stimulate your metabolism as well. Eat a little bit all the time and you won't feel the need to gorge on something uneccessary. I actually lay all my meals out for the day and give myself an allowance to eat xxx amount of whatever I'd like. It won't kill me, and if anything it's probably good. I dunno, maybe it might help you. Cuts down the frustrating meal preparation as well.

Yea, just try someting for a little bit, and if it's hard and you don't have immediate results, quit. Thats the way to do it.

This is so true. It cannot be stressed enough, someone should make it their signature.

Soda is the only palatable way to eat an enormous amount of refined sugar.

My uncle was in the habit of drinking a 2-liter bottle of C*cacola by the TV until I set him straight.

ME: "Uncle?"
HE: "?"
ME: "Do you realize theres 212 grams of sugar in that bottle of cola you drink every night?"
HE: "!"
ME: "Thats almost 1.5 kg of pure white sugar a week."
HE: "!!"
ME: "That's about 75 kilos of sugar a year from your cola alone"
HE: "I get thirsty in the evening."
ME: "You get thirsty because that sugar needs more water to be processed by your body than is contained in the bottle. Hence you keep drinking and get thirstier still. Also, you need extra nutrients to process that amount of sugar, which you're not getting because cola is just a ton of sugar in club soda. So you drink two liters but in reality dehydrate yourself and starve yourself of nutrients."
HE: "God I hate the Internet."

I couldn't get him to drink water, so he now drinks cola light instead. Also not very groovy, but 200mg of sweetener beats the crap out of 200 grams of refined sugar.

---

As for remaining somewhat obese rather than losing - hey thats not aqt all a bad idea. Most people who diet get caught up in the yoyo effect, which is far unhealthier than keeping level - if you actually keep it level.

KILL the soda! Open a fresh bottle and swiftly drop five Menthos in there. Now look: is that what you want?

Actually, the High Fructose Corn Syrup which is used to sweeten sodas is worse than regular refined sucrose.

It is an artificial sweetener "invented" in the 1970's, and has metabolic effects such as raised triglycerides (blood fats) as well as increased insulin resistance and blood glucose levels.

It's all evil, I tell ya.

Fuck all the people that drink gallons of cola, end up getting diabetes and other complications that stress the system. Lazy bitchs have the nerve to say things like "it's not hurting anyone but me".

With slothful dieting, you can almost be sure to find an equally disgusting mind.

I was doing so good about not drinking soda, but then I got a job at Taco Bell, and having nine flavors at your finger tips is overpowering (heh, I'm pathetic)

Well, more like four if you include the sub-flavors (Mountain Dew Baja Blast/Code Red)

And...yah I think I'll go for a night run in an hour

Well that went to hell

Not only to ease my legs, I'm oddly symoblic about exercise (like I can't really start unless it's a new week, for me Monday)

But for truth, tomorrow is a relatively healthier me (save for a cup of soda during breaks, but I'm packing my own lunches)
