Overlay???

I have read alot and seen alot of posts involving overlay. I'm wondering if anyone could give me a good clean explanation of how to identify it, and remedy it. Thanks Guys. L8rs.

check out the faq here at the shroomery on casing. overlay happens when some fast growing mycelium starts to stick up through the top layer of casing. to fix it, patch lightly where you see it growing, then stick your casing in your terrarium. with proper conditions everything will be good. late.

go look in the pics forum. see how everyones casings are still black or brown and the mycellium os UNDER it? thats good. if your mycellium grows OVER the casing layer so your casing looks like a big fully colonized cake in a jar then you got overlay. its very easy to spot and fairly easy to control. ill be facing my biggest overlay issue very soon: puerto ricans :-0 !!!
when you see the white; give it light! (and drop your temperature from 85 to 75 of course)

I wouldn't cover my casing with plastic wrap after sticking it in the fruiting chamber.
You want air exchange.
So fan it several times a day and mist it when needed....and give it light.

What strain are you working with ?

working with P.R.'s. I have had a first flush on one terrarium, and got about 4 oz. over the week. have 3-4 more terr's getting ready to fruit, just have to move them, they are about 50% colonized P.R.'s.
