Naming your kids after movie stars
    #5851497 - 07/12/06 05:12 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I don't know whether it's the same in the States/Canada/rest of the world but here in the UK it seems to be all the fashion (in certain classes) to name your kids after film stars

Often when I'm out and about I hear young mothers yelling "Orlando! Leonardo! Britney! Elijah! Stop chasing the pigeons!"

Makes my blood boil  :mad2:

those names were around long before someone made them famous.

Kind of backwards, but here in the US, celebrities name their kids ridiculous (what they think are creative) things, such as Phinnaeus, Apple, January, Studebaker. Poor kids. They have it on VH1 every once in a while.

Not here in the UK they weren't!

I bet if there was some new big movie star named 'Farts Fartofferson' there'd be a whole generation of kids named after him here

Everyone calling their kids 'Alfie' because of shane ritchie in Eastenders.

There was a scary trend of young teenage mums naming their kids after drugs.

I actually thought about naming my future kid Phinnaeus. He's a character from the book "A Seperate Peace." A book I really like and a character I can relate to.

I read an article recently that stated it's becoming trendy now to name your children after corporate things like Starbucks and ESPN. It featured two sports fans who named their child "Espin" after ESPN. Yeck.

Once worked with this guy in Nottingham who's last name was 'Walker', quite a common surname over here.

He named his kid 'Luke Sky' lol

More subtle ones I've heard are Crystal, Molly, Tina.... I also have an aunt first name Mary middle name Jane.

I really don't see a problem with those names or the ones of movie stars that were mentioned. Orlando and Elijah are pretty nice names. I'd probably end up naming my kid after a musician, Pepper a bad name? Or maybe drugs  Tab, Vale. I kind of feel bad for him already.

And how many of those kids do you think are going to be found at the age of 14 up in a hotel with a hooker and an eight-ball..  :smirk:

Pretty much every single one. Oh, if only they would step off the fast track and explore the wonderful world of psychedelics.

Celebrities are fucking crazy, ruining the life (well, at least 18 years of it, until they can get it legally changed) of their own flesh and blood for shits and giggles, which'll last no more than one day.
