Spectacular photography, as always Inski!
I am such a sucker for mutants- I am digging on that "twin"! That is one mad looking stipe!

Thanks CureCat I have a feeling they mutate because there conditions are varied by bringing them in sometimes, they're in potted plants that I found while working in the horticulture industry! I've had good success cloning these fruits and tests are underway to find out what substrate these may fruit of indoors. inski.

Do you think perhaps the mutations are partially genetic based? Maybe some species have a higher propensity to mutate than others? I have anecdotal support for this, though it is excessively vague and describes certain strains from vendors- not the most reliable source of info, hehehe. I agree that conditions play a large role in mutations, though "mutant" is also commonly used to describe chromosomal changes, so I wonder if both are relative.
Have you done many clones from mutants? If so, have you noticed a higher rate of mutations in the resulting fruits, as compared to the fruits of a non mutant clone, or multi spore inoculation?

Not real sure why you would think they were caerulipes inski but very nice photos. Do they bruise blue? Are they an active psilocybe? Definately unique.

Those are funky! Have you analysed them under the m.scope?
Ive seen that twisted stem, in the "twin" in subs. I wonder what the hell causes it and if thats only present in psilocybes.

Yeah i think they look quite different to caerulipes although the microscopic features are very similar. Maybes its a new species.

I have studied the microscopic features of these mushrooms for the last year and as bluemeanie says they're very similar if not identical to Psilocybe caerulipes. I've seen these same mushrooms fruit many times and macroscopically they always look different! All of the mushrooms in these pics exhibit strong blueing reaction when damaged or cut! It would be nice if they were a new species MJ, what makes you sure they're not Ps caerulipes? inski.
