LC verry EZ

Just checked my first LC at it is taking off like crazy after 3 days. I don't know who came up with all of these TEKs that require so much tedious work. In my opinion it is not necessary.
What I did was put bottled mineral water 1/2 full in a half pint jar. Put about 2-3 (small) drops of honey in (should look very pale). boiled for 1 hour. Take the jar out and let it cool to room temp(about 2 HRS should do it). put a coffee filter over the top of it. Then just put your spore syringe needle through the coffee filter and under the opened lid. spray a good amount in and close the lid. just remember the entire time you have the lid opened to have the coffee filter draped over the top. This is what I did for my first LC and had no problems.
I am also thinking on my next batch to get rid of the dry verm layer and replacing it with coffee filter to increase airflow. Maybe even try one jar without a lid and only filter. I think that is the biggest problem with slow germination / colonization is Fresh air circ.
BTW none of this should replace good sterilization TEK just wanted to put it out in case anyone found it useful. For me the "Hard way" isn't always the best way.

you should put more honey than that so you can get some nice myc growing in there. a lil more honey more food for the myc. also you dont have to pc for an hour i pc for 10-15 min and then let it cool.

I guess if you had a PC it would only take that long. I am boiling / Steaming. I don't have a PC yet. for the Honey thats just what I read that you want just enough that you can hardley tell that there is honey in there. IMO you dont need that much because more than likely you are going to use it before the myc has had a chance to consume all of the nutes. it not like you are trying to 100% colonize the jar just get enough to enoc your next couple of batches. Thanks for the input though I will take that into consideration on my next attempt. Like I said this is my first time. I am having so much fun.

I am also thinking about taking like maybe.... 1 TSP of brf or rye flour and mixing with the honey water mixture. more extra nutes. I'm not sure if that would be a good idea or not? would it rot?

to simplicity. I kind of chuckle to myself when I see all the crazy set-ups people come up with for LC containers. I use a jar, with one hole in the lid, and a piece of tape over the hole. And it works fantastic.
A few pointers for you. Steaming is fine for LC, in fact I prefer it over PC'ing because its easier and all you need. Its really easy to sterilize the honey-water so an hour is overkill, 20-30 minutes does it. But if you wanna overkill to err on the side of caution, more power to you, its not harming anything.
Second off, you're right, you just want very little honey. If you use too much honey, your spores won't germinate, or you get slow growth. That's a really common mistake people make, they put too much honey/karo/dex in and wonder why its not working. Just a dab will do ya.
Lastly, don't go mixing brf or rye flour or anything crazy in there. You had it right in your post before that; you want just enough nutes to make just enough mycelium to use as innoculant. Putting other crap in there isn't going to help and will just make a gooey nasty mess in your LC jar. LC works great the way it is, no need to change it or try improving it, it does exactly what we want and need it to.

Ya your right I started thinking after I posted that... the object is to be able to fill a syrenge. That would be hard to do with rice in the mix.

I would wager, besides some mycelium, you are going to grow MOLD.
Sure you can steam, boil or even nuke the contents.
The trick is NEVER expose the liquid to OPEN AIR.
You have, by lifting the lid.
Draping a coffee filter over it, will do little if anything.
To stop a contaminate, from entry.
Each cubic foot of household air, contains about 100,000 invisible particulates.
Many of which are contaminate spores.
All it takes is ONE & you are done.
You just don't know it - YET.

Trippin, I agree with you, except I think you need 2 spores. A single bacterium would do it though.

If you mixed it with a lot of cheap strong wine.
You might get a buzz

Nice LC jars Tippin! You should write up a tek on making them nice like that. Most of the ones I've seen are pretty ghetto looking.

Isn't honey a mild anti-biotic?
