Good species for wood?
    #5849875 - 07/12/06 05:23 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Hey all, New guy to the boards here, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on any species you've used that may have done notably well using wood chips?

Also if anyone has had any success using saw dust as a casing ingredient at all I'd love to hear about it since I'm planning on experimenting a little with both wood chips and dust.

I should probably add that I'm working with GT, EQ, and Amazon to start, so if any of those might do nicely than that's a bonus, but if not I plan on gathering more species in the near future so any info is good info.

Thanx...................Ghillie

Reishi does well on wood, as do shiitake. Oysters will also grow on wood, although they'll fruit faster on straw.

GT, EQ, and Amazon are all the same species, but those are cubensis, which are dung and straw lovers, not wood. Spend a few weeks reading everything you can find about growing mushrooms, then ask about what you don't understand. Good luck.
