Hello, i have some jars that are 11 days old after innoculating. I just shook them up tonight, some i had to bang around a little. After i did that it looked like day 1 again, i can't really see any of the mycellium that much. Is it too soon to case? And is there any advantages in letting it go for say, another 10 days, so long is i can still break the substaight up without it turning in to a solid mass and not being able to break it up that easy? Really i'm not sure when it's concidered fully inoculated. Thanx for any help. Also is was told that once fully inoculated, sterile proceedure is not that nessesary from that point on because the mycelium is to strong for any bacteria to get a hold. Is that true?

I am inexperienced, but in my research so far, it has been revealed that you definitely want to wait until 100% colonization else you increase opportunities for contams @ birthing -> fruiting. Hope this helps -ghost

Ah, i noticed that the link you gave me says you can put wetted verm under the substrait. Is that nessesary? I was going to put a 1/2 layer in my fruiting chamber. whitch is better? I also read that with WBS substraits with casing does'nt need verm at all, to just put the fruiting trays in the fruinting chamber. but it seems to me that everything would dry out in a big hurry that way sinse all the moisture in the trays will be utilized in the whole fruiting chamber to get the RH up to 90% or so. leaving nothing left in the trays. And a quick question while i'm here would having an oxygen tank help for the fruiting process. Not sure where to get one without ordering online. Thanx for the reply.

you should wait till they are 100 % also wet verm is not a great idea in a fc i know i just did it on my last one it gets everything too soggy and you will start to get myc growing on the caps . go with perlite

19741974-
Again, I have yet to see casings in my journey thus far.
As for my learning so far I can say there is an abundance of casing info in the Archives (which are a best-of-the-best posts IIUC). An entire forum dedicated to Casing even.
For other noobs like me:
It took me a bit to figure out the difference between the search site and search posts functions. Try both. When searching posts try things like +casing +50/50 to make sure both results are in the posts you are searching. It is OR by default.
The FAQ portion is obviously great.
And there are certain members (magash for example) who posted as he learned the hobby. Find members of that nature, search their posts and gain more info.
I haven't had to leave the Shroomery for a single answer. If it gets hairy I'll either PM a friend or post for other to learn from my search to get an answer.
Sorry that may have gotten a bit OT. Here is the link to the casing archive: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Cat/0/Board/casing -ghost

I don't know i'm lost. I do try to read the tek's but they all contradict each other and themselves for thet matter. i was going copy and paste some of the contradictions but that's too long. now i'm worried about misting the casing. some say do it just up untill they start to pin and then it should be good through all the flushes. others say you have to water just before you harvest. some say you can only mist because you can't get to wet. Then the next thing i here is to dunk the whole damb thing in water. one tek said soak in water for a day and scratch the surface of the casing. how can you scratch the surface if it's fully wet? sorry i sound a little uneasy. but crap all i have i WBS that i'm going to case with verm and peat 50/50. need to know weather to use perlite in the FC or not. and now after reading how to keep the casing at right water level. and do i put perlite under the substraight these are yes and no questions the the tek's don't seem to help. so i wright.... so i wright. peace.
