I dont know shit about growing shrooms , but I heard that you should not eat shrooms from a contaminated cakes because the contaminates are present in the shroom, if this is the case the why can you eat shrooms in the wild were its completely unsteril. Some one Fill me in!

In the wild, mushrooms tend to grow on food that is very selective. In other words, not a lot of other stuff will grow on the same thing that mushrooms grow on in the wild, especially if the mushrooms get to it first. Some "contaminates" in the wild are actually helpful to the mushroom. They don't hurt the mushrooms, but keep away other organisms that would compete with the mushrooms. In the lab, mushrooms are grown on food that is super rich in nutrients. This ensures that you get good crops of mushrooms every time. This food isn't very selective however, and contaminates love to eat the super rich nutrients as well. Remember, just because it isn't a mushroom doesn't mean it is a contamination.

Thanks for the info it helps, but can you eat a shroom if there are contaminates on the cake? Do contaminates travel to the shroom from other parts of the cake?

If in doubt, throw it out. Perhaps if you post a pic or two, help could be more specific. Getting high is not worth ingesting something that may harm you.

As the previous post stated, if in doubt toss it. There are two concerns with contaminated cakes and shrooms. One is that the contamination moves into/onto the fruit body and then into you. Two is that the contamination produces toxins which move into the fruitbodies and then into you.
