Hello dears shroomfriends
i m planing to make some coco coir casing and i thinking how i can keep a good ph about 6.5. Can i use tap water with some ph down (for hydroponics systems) and spray it on the casing to keep moisture and ph as good as possible during the incubation time ? I afraid to use simple tap water not adjusted cus the ph is about 7.5 or 8 :s
I also wondering if popcorn subtract is good as rye grain are ?
i have try one time in rye but with bad result. Maybe 3 or 5 days after inoculation it seems to have a Brown juice in the jar look it came from the rye How do you escape the brown crap ?
thx for your help guys

Im not an expert but I learned a lot about Ph and shit on here recently. Basically Im using 50% verm 50% peat moss as my casing.. I learned that the ph is very important to your casing.. it could prevent mold and really encourage potential yield. You can easily adjust the ph by strolling over to Lowes and picking up some limestone, its 5 bucks a bag for 50 pounds of limestone powder here at least, and if you find a busted bag (or bust one) they will give you half off. then just get litmus paper or a ph meter and check the ph as you add limestone to your casing. try for 7-7.5 thats what I hears the best. Hope that helped.

You want to raise, not lower, the pH. 7-8 or so is plenty fine. The myc will lower the pH as it grows, so you only ever have to worry about keeping the pH UP.

6.5 is too low in my book. 7-8 is much better as FF said.
you are looking to raise ph, not lower it. coir is not the best choice for casing, go with peat and vermiculite.
I think popcorn is inferior to rye. it is full of bacterial endospores for one, and for two it has a very large suface area per grain, which gives you less inoculation points for spawning.
the brown crap is probably bacillus.
rinse your rye well first. soak your rye to germinate endospores. follow a good grain tek. use listerine and a surgical mask (not a dust mask) have good sterile practices. keep your "incubation"/colonization temperatures lower. stuff like that...
