Nice! That's not too bad at all. 1000X oil I'm guessing?
RR is the micrography master around here though. Tell me about how you did it. I have a cheap webcam and would love to do some micrography. Especially time lapse.

This is a 40x objective and a 10x Wide Field Eye piece. So that is 400x
Simple, Cut a hole in the bottom of a film canister, a little super glue, a little duct tape, and presto!
I am still refining it a little. Maybe ill put together a how to.

Cool! I have a binocular head with long distance eyepieces though, so it might be a little more difficult for me. I'll have to try soemthing like that though. Thanks!

They make cameras that slide into the 23 mm eyepieces, so you can leave one eyepiece in place and use the other one for the camera. There's one in the center of this page http://www.microscopesusa.com/ That's not bad for a fifteen dollar camera. RR

Those are a little out of my price range RR. Can't really afford $319, but I might be able to find a spare film canister laying around or at the recycling center!

I think I am getting better at this :o
I took this one today, The glue is dry, I taped up the unit with electrical tape so it looks better and I downloaded a New driver.
I edited the pic to black out the outer area that is out of focus.

fastfred,
I don't know about the long distance eye piece but you can adjust the focus on the camera to make up for distance. It worked for me.

Looking good. Try putting some spores on a slide with a bit of karo water so you can take pictures of them germinating. RR

Hi Cyber Nice pics, I have been doing some microscope work myself using roughly the same tek as you! Here are some of my results! These ones are from an unknown Psilocybe I have been finding here in New Zealand. Note the four spores still attached to the basidia.

These two are of cheilocystidia from the same species.
Glad to see someone else trying to capture images of the micro variety Will post more info if anyones interested! inski.

there is a nice little store downtown that sells a 40x-900x microscope that comes with a usb camera to take pics. the camera is the equivalent of a cheap webcam but i think it would work great. its only $65 too. i might be buying it soon and posting some pics of Panaeolus subbalteatus spores that i've been playing with.

If it's that blue plastic one, save your money. I bought one a couple of years ago and it's total trash. I gave it to my 8 year old neice to look at bugs with and it took her five minutes to loose interest. It's got plastic lenses and plastic gears to move the stage for focus, and blurry as hell. You can't see jack with it at anything but minimum magnification. I never did succeed in seeing a spore through the darn thing. I'll bet you can still find a nice(usable) compound scope on ebay for under $200. RR

Ebay is the way to go for microscopes.

Nice pic. I got so inspired by this thread that I took my first microscope pic. It's a 1000X pic of a clamp connection.

The quality isn't the best. It seems to look a fair bit smaller than it does through the scope, but I think it's pretty good for something I cobbled together out of a prescription pill bottle and a cheap webcam!
