Graft question.
    #5847437 - 07/11/06 03:30 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

So a small button cacti was grafted atop a san pedro a while back.

Growth of the button has been phenomenal! And it has gone from being a tiny 1/8inch bump to a massive 1 inch button

But in my absence, the pedro has thrown up a pup right next to it, and it is starting to crowd and get some spines into the button.

Now the obvious thing to do is probably remove the pedro pup(which is actually about the size of the button now.

But what would happen if it was left to grow? Would it totally mess up the button? will the button adapt or be forced from the cacti?

..............

"MAN! You know there aint no such thing as left over crack!"

the button wont get as much energy and growth will return to the pedro. resulting in very little growth of the button. as the branch becomes larger it may force the button off of the plant. in other words remove the pup.
