absinthe distillation

Does anyone know WHY you need to distill an absinthe brew? This process seems a little unnecessary to me given that I am using Everclear, which is already pretty pure liquor. Does the distillation remove potential toxins from my brew, or does the process simply improve the taste of my brew?
Anyone have a skematic for a simple home pot-still?

thujone is contained int he wormwood, alcohol would extract it. You would distill to remove extra plant matter, tannins, and other things. Plus, that is how real absinthe is made....it also improves the taste big time.

You distill it to remove the good stuff from the bad. Distilling leaves behind all the little chunks and metals and non volatile chemicals that make the brew murky and disgusting. The difference is quite pronounced.

I distill absinthe quite often now that I don't run absinthekits anymore. The reason you distill absinthe is because no matter what you use 98% EtOH or some certain lower percetange EtOH/H2O mix you will dissolve many bitters that really affect the taste of final product. Try separating your next batch keep one half undistilled and distill the other to about 109C then take your distillate and color it green with some fresh mint. Now try a taste test. You'll soon see why.
You can eve see the difference.

I heard absinthe isnt really all that great.
