Questions about RH.

i know casings are supposed to be between high 80's - low 90's RH curious to know what would happen if a casing was put at a higher RH.
also what about non cased bulk substrate. that would need to be as high RH as possible. but what would happen if a non cased bulk sub was put in a RH of around 90%? would that be fine or would things go wrong?
any answers would be appreciated. thanks a bunch

the answers to both of those questions is pinning.
in both situations, pinsets won't be optimal because conditions aren't optimal... but in both scenarios things will still "work"... if anything the worse of those two scenarios is uncased at 90% (casings w/too high humidity do pretty well anyway, uncased subs with too low humidity do poorly if they pin at all)
once your pins are set and you're in the cropping stage, those little differences in humidity aren't so big a deal, as long as its "high enough" they grow just fine.

im guessing my casings in a higher RH just wont need to be misted nearly as much?
thanks for the info i thought things could be alot worse lol

exactly... but that cycle of misting/fanning/evaporation/transpiration is part of what gets you your pinset. with the hum too high, misting or not, the evaporation and transpiration can't really take place because the air is so saturated, that's where the downside of the excess humidity is...

actually with casings you want a really nice high RH in the prepin stages. Once you see some pins forming drop the RH down to the mid 80's or so and let the casing layer take care of the rest.
