So I went on a little hunt... Nothing too spectacular. The usual Agrocybe pediades or Agrocybe semiorbicularis (aka- rust spored Pans *YESSUP*), Panaeolus subbalteatus, Panaeolina foenisecii maire, Pisolithus tinctorius (Dead Man's Foot), Bovista sp. (puffball), various Coprinus, hundreds of Conocybes, a couple Agaricus sp., some pretty ice-white coloured mushrooms, and those damned Balloons!..... And then there was this nasty stuff...
I was looking about the ground and I noticed a few square feet of ground covered in some nasty looking gelatin-like, rot yellow, soggy looking growth. I poked at it and pieces of it were easily broken off, so i took two pieces. The underside is this weird fish tank algea green colour, rather than the puke yellow colour on top. I looked at numerous photos and descriptions of jelly type fungus but could not find a match.
Does anyone know what the hell this is? I'd give a description, but there is no stipe, no cap, no spores that I can find... Just this wrinkled gel stuff. The habitat was underneath some pine trees, with some ice plant near by, weeds and a bit of grass. Mostly moist soil that this was sitting atop. No distinct smell. Smells faintly of dirt. It does not bruise. And NO I WON'T taste this!
Sorry about the photo quality! One of these days I'll invest in a digi cam....

I'm guessing some sort of Slime Mold.
It could also be a Jelly Fungus or some sort of Lichen.

Right Xmush, I read his description and thought to myself that sounds like dog vomit or cat vomit. Then I reached your post and went no further or father or whichever comes first.
Did not feel the need to read anymore.

Actually, I think you're onto something Dave! I was trying to recall what it reminded me of, and was thinking water- maybe at the beach? But now that you mention it, I have seen it in water! Just not ocean water, rather pond water. Furthermore, the area I found it is part of a lagoon reserve! Uhh, the lagoon is fed into by the ocean, hehehe... But yeah, I think it is infact, some sort of algea stuff that grows in water. Somehow, this dirt was a suitable environment for it.

The stuff you're thinking of in pond water is probably this:
http://www.bioremediate.com/lyngbya.jpg
It's Cyanobacteria, a photosynthetic bacteria that is similar to algae, but not algae.

That particular comment wasn't horrid, but he is(was) known for being a person who was always very lude and vulgar. We'll only take so much shit before we slap ya with the permaban :P
Plus, anyone who has enough points on our banning system to be able to get a perma ban probably deserves it anyway. It was well earned.

Yeah, I have to agree, not on my own behalf alone. This has been an on going issue with him.
If you are skeptical, try browsing some of his posts.
Dude, and right after I gave him a break and affirmed his comment! I can just imagine what he was thinking... "Oh hey, she didn't insult me in her response!!.... Hmm, maybe she wants to get naked!"
Yet another "WTF???" invoked, compliments of the notorious Dave himself.

I had high hopes that he would shape up after his two week ban. I even gave him another shroom in his rating! Unfortunately, he just can't play nice with the other kids. Besides being an all around asshole, he occasionally gave advice that ranged from ridiculous to potentially deadly. Good riddance Dave.

Sorry to come off as a little harsh there. While what he said may not have been all that bad, we do not take kindly to people hijacking threads and making stupid comments like that. He has the mentality of a 12 year old kid. Having to read his garbage posts while coming into the hunting forum to read about mushrooms is very frustrating. If I wanted to read posts like that, I would go to the community forum section. This is the mycology section and we need to keep it running smoothly. Dave has been banned about 3 times, he's been warned about giving out bad ID's, using racism in the hunting forum, giving out bad advice, flaming, etc. This was just the straw that broke the camels back for me.

Hey CureCat,
It seems you are the Mushroom Hunting forum sweetheart.
A cute intelligent girl who likes to hunt mushrooms is a rare find. I would have asked you out weeks ago if we were not on opposite sides of the continent.
I'm glad you are here.

I was going to use the phrase "straw that broke the camels back", but I got confused when I was typing it and couldn't remember if it was "needle that broke the camels back"... Yeah, I guess I got it mixed up with "needle in a haystack"? So i figured save myself the embarrasment.
Thanks Dan!! That is a very nice thing to say! But I only had one pic of me up, how do you know if I am cute? :-P I mean, it was after all, a camera phone pic. and plus, I ate my own ear wax (in my defense, it wasn't my idea!). I am happy to have found this forum! It has helped me to acquire a lot of common sense knowledge about mycology and mushroom hunting, the sort of things you don't read in text books. It's a shame that there are no mycology courses taught at the community college I attend.

Comon now people. This form is for conversing about various fungi and not for power tripping, degrading people that you hate, baning drunk persons, nor making on chicks. I feel that DaveTX is very smart about what he has to say regarding ID's and that Shroomydan, Eris, and CureCat have something going for eachother. Asfar as the green stuf that is showing in the pictures at the beginning of the post, I do believe that they are that of nothing more then swamp slime that has been collected and relocated to the ground then photographed a week later.

It has nothing to do with power tripping, it has to do with keeping the forum clean and on track. Dave has a long history of ruining posts in here, and he has been given plenty of chances.
The whole point of me being here is to help people. I spend a lot of my own time helping others, as well as the forum in general.

So do you get paid to do this stuf or do you do it as a volunteer kinda thing?

How long have you been reading? I can compile a list of ridiculous things he has said if you don't believe me and are unwilling to check his posts. An utter waste of time, but likely amusing.
Oh, and no I'm not sucking anyones dick, alright? Nothing is going on, I prefer this forum stay relative to mycology, and Dave derailed that initiative early on.
Your suggestion that someone relocated swamp muck is ludicrous. That is something Dave would say.

I think this is getting out of hand and is irrelevent to mushroom hunting. Too much drama. Lock?

This thread has been closed.
Reason: This thread seems to have served purpose, it's getting off-topic, puppet is gone.
