pins, but only in the sides

ok so i have a casing, wbs spawned to hpoo, incubating. it is a pretty even casing and the mycelium is popping out all over the casing pretty evenly. i have pins, but only on the edges of the casing, none in the middle. should i pick them off and wait till the middle pins or what?
thanks

well not to disappoint but you may not get pins in the middle... you probably would have by now if theres a bunch of well developed ones around the edges.
why is it still incubating if you've got pins? is there something mixed up in the post or am i understanding it right?
what did you case with? often when you dont see pins in the middle your casing layer is too thick, too compact, moisture content isn't right (could be too wet or too dry), or you let it colonize too much... pins form where conditions are optimal, chances are your substrate has shrunken a little, leaving a nice humid gap around your edges which are prime for pin formation... and your casing layer obviously hasn't provided that same sort of microclimate, so there's something wrong... possible to post a picture? we may be able to advise better if so...

no pic, but its about 4 inches high of colonized hpoo with .25 inches of peat/verm+ on top. the mycelium is poking out evenly, just a little more on the sides. there arent many pins on the sides and they are in beginning stages. it has not shrunken either. maybe if i remove some of the casing layer from the middle the mycelium could catch up.
and i meant its fruiting, not incubating. my bad

ok then it doesn't sound like the situation is so bad
if the casing seems deeper in the middle it might just do the trick to remove some of it if you can do so without too much disturbance, but its almost always better to just let things go, there's a tendancy to screw stuff up when you start poking around i'd leave the pins around the edges be too, you might get a crummy pinset in the middle for the first flush but things should even out on your 2nd... i definitely wouldnt go picking any pins off at this stage unless they're obviously bolting way ahead of the rest (i.e., cap is formed and they're starting to get real big real fast)...

Just leave it alone and let it fruit. Disturbing any project, especially at the pinning stage is a big mistake. It's normal to see what you are. It's very often that cased substrates begin to pin on or near the edges first. RR

this is usually what people do wrong with casings, including myself, especially with the moisture %
