They are very wet as I sprayed them just before taking pics. What's up with the stringy mycellium growth? I've not seen that before...

Golden teachers. My clear sided chamber has them fruiting in some oddball directions, but I'm quite happy with the pinset - especially on the cake in the second picture!

I've done a search, but got nothing. What are the negative results of spraying? The last time I did this, the cakes were way too dry after the first flush, so I've been spraying them directly this time around with good results.

Also, does anyone know what is up with that stringy mycellium growth? Is it symptomatic of my drowning the mycellium via the spraying?

if they are too dry after the first flush just re-dunk them in between flushes.

I did dunk them after the first flush. That helped but they were still way too dry. I dunked them for 24 hours and then broke them into 1" square pieces for casing. The water had not done much to moisten the cakes beyond the outer edges. The inside of the cakes was tinder dry and I got very few fruits.

I'm sure that the problem is with my fruiting chamber, and I'm not claiming that I've done right by spraying them directly. I would like to know what harm this does though as I've been misting them directly for a few days now.

fan the fruits very good after spraying them.
fan them until they are dry again.
the cakes will remain moist still.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with misting fruits or pins. In fact, lack of moisture is a major cause of failure. However, one must be sure to maintain adequate air exchange so that the water evaporates from the caps.

That stringy mycelium is nothing to be concerned about. It is simply aggressive mycelium looking for more substrate to colonize.

Nice job!

This is most helpful. I've got a pretty powerful aquarium air pump hooked up to two bubble wands, so there is a lot of air exchange going on. I'm still curious what damage the moisture on the caps does if it doesn't evaporate though...

Thanks for the thumbs up!

the (potential) damage is that it can provide a breeding ground for bacteria, leading to bacterial blotch/rotting - big ugly eaten away black spots on your mushrooms...

CreamCorn is right on.  If the fruits become too moist for too long they may begin to rot.  Proper air exchange may prevent this.

Nice rhizomorphic growth!!!  And beautiful fruits!

It's really not a problem just like in nature whoever said not to spray them was most likely referring to developing primordia either that or they just don't understand what is actually going on. Shrooms will absorb moisture readily during growth it's a good thing provided there is adequate FAE.
