Suicide bomber wept tears of joy when chosen for mission By Mohammed Daraghmeh, The Associated Press JENIN, West Bank - When Rafat Abu Diyak heard he was to be Islamic Jihad's next suicide bomber, he wept tears of joy, said Mahmoud Tawalbi, the man who sent him. Abu Diyak boarded a crowded bus traveling through northern Israel early this morning and detonated explosives strapped to his body, killing himself and seven other passengers. For more on the deadly terror attack, click here. Tawalbi, head of Islamic Jihad in Jenin, recalled Abu Diyak's reaction when he was chosen for the mission. "He started crying like a child from happiness, he started kissing me, saying "thank you, thank you, thank God," Tawalbi said. "He said he wanted to make every Israeli cry like the Palestinians." Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the blast that killed seven and wounded more than 20 passengers, many of them Israeli Arabs. "I have the honor to do so," Tawalbi said. Abu Diyak was originally a member of the larger Islamic group, Hamas, but switched to Islamic Jihad and asked to carry out a bombing attack, Tawalbi said. "We checked out his background and his personality," Tawalbi said, "and we agreed." Reflecting Islamic fundamentalist ideology, Tawalbi said Islamic Jihad operatives would not stop their struggle even if the Palestinians get a state in the West Bank and Gaza. He said the Israelis must leave the Middle East. "We will not follow them to Lithuania or Russia," he said. Tawalbi expressed regret that some of the wounded in the bus attack were Israeli Arab citizens. "We told Arabs in Israel many times to keep away from Israeli places," he said, noting that the bus line serves Israeli cities. Abu Diyak's parents grieved quietly in their simple house in Jenin. His mother, 52, sobbing, said she could tell something was unusual when her son kissed her for a last time. "My son is a sacrifice to Palestine. I give him to Palestine," she said. She did not give her name. *********************************************************************** I think that Israel should dismantle settlements and give back the bulk of pre-67 Palestine, I just don't believe for a second that this will satisfy most Palestinians. They could have had that under the Oslo Accords, with Barak.

What suicide bombers say might not reflect the views of the majority of Palestinians. Or, it might. Maybe now. I remember in a documentary I saw one time. Called. I forget the name of it. But the mother of the kid who was going to blow himself up on a bus. She said she would have turned him over to the Israeli soldiers if she had known. I'm sure most Palestinians and most Israelis would prefer peace to constant terror. I'm sure. The people who are scared to ride the buses or sit in restaurants or walk to a friend's house. I bet that sucks. The fascist, police-state type government of Israel. And the religious nuts in Palestine. I don't think either speak for the majority of people in their countries.

Over one thousand Israeli Army officers (former and current) have denounced the agression being conducted ny Israel. They say the occupations and search and destroy missions are wrong and are nly making things worse. Yet you don't hear much about this. Say what you want... the Palestinians have a lot of courage and are willing to die for what they believe in. They aren't hired mercenaries or draftees. They know they don't have the missles, tanks and all of the fancy weapons that the US gives Israel. Hell, they have 11 year old boys throwing rocks at storm troopers. But they aren't going to give up. Want peace? work for justice ...

Very true, mm. One must compare the two evils in the conflict: occupation and terrorism. Terrorism is a result of occupation, and Israel needs to see that. The cycle of violence will continue as long as Israel illegally occupies Palestinian territory.

You know, , , , if the Palestinians fought back through non-violent means, they'd have way more support. The only way people can attack them in a legitimate way now is to say that they're all terrible terrorist guys. But if they fought back through non-violence there would be no support for Israel doing those house-to-house searches. And all that. I don't know. I'm sure most Palestinians aren't down with killing. But even I find myself rooting for suicide bombers and such. So, everyone would have to realize that it was all bad and stop glorifying martyrs and such. That would work. But it would never happen. Two primitive, monotheistic desert tribes. . .

If Israel is only hated because they took Palestinian land in the 1967 war, then why was she attacked in 1967? Just curious.

Because they took Palestinian land before 1967? In 1948 700,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes in what was British-mandate Palestine.

Israel didn't just fall out of the sky. A zionist terrorist attacks against the Brits in the area that killed about 90 or so sent them running. Next thing you know, David ben Gurion is commanding Jewish troops to move in against the Arabs.

What about when the Arabs rose up against the British from 1938-1944(I might be slightly off on the dates, but essentially the Palistenians(sp?) started the attacks before Israel was even created)? Britian was forced to stop allowing Jews to imigrate to the area because they were being attacked by Palistenians(sp?)? Peace will never come to the area, it has essentially been in one form of conflict or another since before the Romans occupied the area, why should that change any time soon?
