College Funded Psilo!!!!

So here's my first post. So the other evening my buddy who is taking micro-bio this semester, aproached me about helping him with a research lab on.....you guessed it..."the growth characteristics of Psilocybe Cubensis"!!!!!!! Well, damn, if I'm not on the map now with a university funded lab experiment on my favorite litlle snacks. We're starting with a multispore inoc. on agar --> rye-->???? At this moment we ar not fully decided on what casings/ substrates we're going to use... rye--> straw-->coir& castings will be in there somewhere along with what ever else we can imagine. If any one has any coments or sugestions for possible experiments post away, let's see what happens!!! We wonder if their going to let us keep what we harvest??! Best Regards, Spector

Have you realised that growing cubes is illegal, even in a research lab ? Do you have the agreement of someone ? Anyway, that's a cool thing, and you'll have fun if you can work on this project. You could try to isolate very good mycelium, then compare the growth cycle with multispore. Then you conclude that selection is a great thing (if it is), and the work is over !

What country are you in? If you are in the U.S., you should be very cautious. Just because you and your friend declared it was an experiment, does not mean it is a legal experiment... Talk to your professor before you proceed. If he gives you the green light, go a head. I would hate for you to face legal action because of your experiment... If you go through with it, share the results with us!

> Talk to your professor ... If he gives you the green light, go a head. If you are in the US, and you are going to initiate pinning, then you (or your "supervisor") will need to have a DEA number allowing you to possess psilocybin and psilocin in order to stay legal.

I would love to see the cops face on this one... "But sir, the university said it was fine to break the law." In the US, for a university to do research on Schedule I substances (such as Psilosybin and Psilocin which are in P.Cubensis fruitbodies), they are required to have a DEA number giving them legal access to those substances they are researching. If they do not have a DEA number and the feds find out, somebody can end up in prison. Ignorance and research are not valid legal defences in the US. If the university says its ok then most likely they do have a DEA number, but I would want to verify its validity before risking prison. How many professors do you see dumping their careers and standing up for you when the cops show up saying, "Take me instead, I told him it was ok." (Actually, the cops would just take both in that case.)

Green light [Re: Seuss]

Well as of Wednesday afternoon four agar plates were inoculated with help from the professor, who full well knows that these are cubensis. As for the DEA number I'm not sure, but we were given the green light to proceed. So as of now four plates, two EQ's two B+'s, are in the incubator begining their life. We are in possetion of a twenty gallon aquarium that wil be autoclaved next week, and 30 pounds of rye(not that we're going to need all that!). Agar isolates will be used to spawn rye masters, and then fruited in the aquarium. I'll keep everyone posted. Spector p.s. our proffesor was even discussing strategies for mass growth mediums, a very broad minded proffessor indeed!

Ah, it is all clear now. The professor is getting you to grow his stash for him and if you get busted, he, in IMF fashion, will disavow any knowledge of your actions.
