Shrooms dont seem very potent

OK, I am very new to shroom growing. Ive cropped maybe a couple Oz's dry so far. My friends and I have noticed my shrooms seem very weak. Ive taken an 1/8 and saw some patterns, but just didn't trip as hard as I think an 1/8 should be.
I'm not sure what to try, is it most likely my set up or just weak spores to begin with? I'm using BRF cakes and casing them in 60/40 verm coco coir. Is there anything i can do to increase potency or should i try another spore site?

What strain and vendor?
BRF isn't very good for potency. Any other substrate will do better for ya. It shouldn't be too much of an issue though. 1/8 should still cure anything that ails you.

Vendor was micro-supply.com, strains were sold as B+ and cambodian.

Every flush is different so you could probably use those same spores again and get very different results. In my opinion, 1/8 isn't enough to trip. It will get you high, really high usually, but if you want to trip, eat a quarter or more. RR

Your spores are good. Instead of brf use rye flour or rye grass seed flour in place of brf. Just put into coffee grinder and make your on flour. Worked great for me GL

Weird....I used BRF and Vermiculite and the first one I ate was 30 grams wet and I tripped good.
Tonight I ate around 1-1.5 grams and the trip didnt last as long but I tripped harder.
Maybe I am just lucky but I seen all the good stuff and scooby doo too. B+ from shroomworks.
Maybe it is just that I like and do extasy pretty often and find shrooms to be so much more fun. Actually I think it is the best thing ever.....love it!

I ate 70gr wet from my first brf grow...and it was not very potent.
Now, with 1.2 gr of the brf-h-poo, it's plenty enough for a good trip...

Potency is genetics, not substrate related. As long as your mushrooms have the food they need to grow, they'll take care of the potency issue on their own. If you don't like the potency, grow a different strain or substrain. RR

there was also a big difference in the looks of them-

the brf cake shrooms looked yellowish, while the poo looked more redish...
