Fat fluffy pins?

I birthed my first jar the other day and I'm getting some really FAT (not phat... well yes they are but literally I mean they are fat) pins! The base where it connects to the cake is really white and seemingly fluffy. They seem to be growing fine, but the other pins aren't doing the same thing. Just wondering if it is a good or a bad thing. I'll post a pic later when my camera is charged.

You've probably got fatassism. It's from waterlogged substrate. It really shouldn't be hitting you until the 3rd flush.
Also bumping you own threads after 1.5 hours is NOT cool.

Yeah, I know I'm not cool. Oh well. I'll try not to be so impatient next time. So I'm guessing a waterlogged substrate is a good thing eh?

Thank you for your condesending remark on my avatar. Cool is a relative term. I don't come this forum to be "cool". And I suspect most intelligent people would agree. Your avatar depicts destruction on a massive and disgusting scale. I can hardly see why you would think that is "cool". Your cooler than thou remarks are not cool. So, I'll just let it rest as such. Gandalf is a reference to magic in case you forgot.
Now back to the importance of my post. My cakes are pinning wonderfully. I highly doubt there is anything wrong with my cake. I was just curious why my first pins were so fat. If my cake is waterlogged wouldn't I be having trouble pinning?

ROFL......
My avatar depicts the testing of hydrogen bombs. That's all. No destrucion on massive scales in regards to H-bombs. I think you're referring the the Atom bomb. Gandalf is a reference to a movie called Harry Potter based off of childs books about magic. in case you forgot.

What happenned to asking and answering questions about mushroom cultivation? When did the Shroomery become a place to poke fun at people's avatars or rate their "coolness"?
Waterlogged substrate is NOT a good thing, as it will more likely than not encourage contamination. What strain are you growing? I've had Creepers that always look all fuzzy/fluffy at the base. At first I thought it was cobweb or some other such contam, but a lil quick research proved otherwise. Good luck with your project and keep us posted, we'd love to see some porn.

In my experience, a waterlogged substrate doesn't produce fat mushrooms. It produces slimy ones. If you've got fatties, it's probably strain/genetics related. Nothing to worry about. Welcome to the forum. RR

I agree with RR. Welcome to the forum...anyhow...yes, there are many different strains that start out with fat pins (Koh Samui for example) and also, any single one of the strains could have simply suffered a mild genetic mutation during the development of the spore's parent that caused this...in any case, however, it is nothing to be particularly worried about... unless the fat pins begin to wriggle around like a midget's fingers...then I'd start to worry...cause as we all know...there's NOTHING more creepy than midget fingers....except granny porn.

Ugh... granny porn and midgets fingers. I hope I can forget you said that - Lol. No, I think everythings OK. Previously here, there was some debate over which strain these babies were because the vendor (not one of the sponsors here) apperently didn't know what he/she was selling. But, I think these are Mexican Cubensis. Could be wrong though. Can any of you tell by it's appearance? Thanks for the replies and for not dissing my avatar =)

When I first had pinning Equadorian cakes I thought I had problems because the largest 'bumps' were growing on my cakes. Then I realized they were frickin' pins.
It's definitely strain specific.
