I need help to get an Idea of what this might be....
    #5838680 - 07/09/06 12:30 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I went to play some tennis with a friend today and after we were done, we decided to rest under a tree...

I looked around and noticed some fungus amongus if you know what I mean ;P

The Tree: Not sure what kind it was, it has leaves not needles, the wood wasn't smooth (had bark, and the bark was in lines up the tree)

Yeh so this only gives you a general idea of what kind of tree it was (not an Alder, Cotton wood, willow, or pine)

Anyway on to the important stuff:

The mushrooms were groing in circles probably 4-5 inches (possibly more) or solitary

The Cap: Very dry (possibly because its a hot ass, dry, day), The color was a slightly darker than usual yellow similiar to this Color Except with a slightly lighter/creamier tint to it

There were no markings on the cap, it was bulbous, and had no veil, but the cap did overhang and taper towards the stem (not to say it was a weak cap, it was very sturdy) The biggest cap was roughly a CM more than quarter size, and the smallest was the size of a dime, the flesh of the cap was white, and no bruising was observed (possibly because these were very dry specimens)

The Gills where much lighter, but had the same general tint as the cap, and were wavy, at first glance the edges look white, but on closer inspection just a very very very light yellow

The stem wasn't very long (probably about the size of two caps diameter, ROUGHLY, and proportionate to how big the cap is)

It was white, and thick (errr sturdy, wasn't especially thick in appereance, but not to say it was thin either)

I didn't pick any (I was with my friend so it was pretty much out of the question), but I might be going back the next time it rains...
This is in PNW

now given the season and setting, and the above description, give some general ideas as to what it might be, and if it is worth going back

It doesn't sound like it fits the description of an active as far as the information that you posted goes.

With no pictures, spore print color becomes a very important feature. Try to get us one if possible.
