Reich! It's great to hear from someone else who is familiar with his work.

For anyone who isn't, or those who want to know more, here's a quick link to a book by two of his students:

I agree 100% with your post Cosmic! I am full of rage and suffer from psychosomatic illness and at times I am sad to say quite sociopathic. Do you have any suggestions as to how I could improve myself?

Nah, trying to "not be" something is highly ineffective.  You need to decide to do something different than what you have been doing.  :smirk:

Andy21, I highly recommend reading Wilhelm Reich, or any of his students.  Try the link I posted & here is another:

http://www.orgonomy.org/

He addressed psychological issues through body/energy work, with amazing results.  His work was highly controversial, and he was arrested, censored, banned & shunned.  (Almost always a sign that you're onto something.)

Quote:

Psychic health depends on orgastic potency, that is, on the capacity for surrender in the acme of sexual excitation in the natural sexual act. Its' basis is the unneurotic character attitude of capacity for love. Mental illness is a result of a disturbance in the natural capacity for love.

In the case of orgastic impotence, from which a vast majority of humans are suffering, biological energy is dammed up, thus becoming the source of all kinds of irrational behavior.

The cure of psychic disturbances requires in the first place the establishment of the natural capacity for love. It depends as much upon social as upon psychic conditions . . .

The vital energies, under natural conditions, regulate themselves spontaneously, without compulsive duty or compulsive morality. The latter are a sure indication of the existence of antisocial tendencies. Antisocial behavior springs from secondary drives which owe their existence to the suppression of natural sexuality.

Indeed. The state of being "something" has mechanisms that produce that state. In order to be "something else", one simply changes those mechanisms, which, of course, is usually thoughts....

Yes, but a focus on not thinking what you have been thinking is less effective than thinking something else.

It may seem like I'm being picky about this, but when you direct your desire for change (and thus your personal power) towards stopping what you do not want, you reinforce and identify with the primacy of that behavior.

Now, that's an enigmatic emoticon.  Are you saying that I am pretty but dumb, much like his character in "Zoolander"?  Or is this a more general "this thread is about homosexuality" message?

Your non-verbals are confusing.

I was thinking about starting to drink coffee, but I don't know if I want to.

I have recently begun being more organized, planning ahead and stuff, and the thought of sitting at my table in the morning, before work, sipping on coffee, planning out what I will need to accomplish that day, ready to start a new day, is an intriguing one... I don't really need a stimulant to get me up and moving, but it seems as though doing so would really activate me... plus Skorpivo is an advocate of the occasional coffee... certainly wouldn't like to get addicted to it...

I'm addicted and I'm OK with that.   I keep it to one cup of GOOD coffee per day, and I have a little routine/ritual about preparing it.

Oh, and also the thought of sitting at the table, sipping coffee, going over the weekly department recap, checking out the numbers and everything... 'course, I have to smuggle that stuff home in order to do that, policy is to not "work off the clock", but its not like I get a chance to sit down and review that stuff at work.

I just wish I could access our computer systems at home... I'd be unstoppable then.

See, that's what intrigues me about it, and it'd definitely be the one GOOD cup of coffee in the morning thing for me as well. Coffee seems as though it would be excellent for sitting at the table, reviewing numbers and planning stuff!

Trouble is, I can't stand the taste, but there is always milk and cream and sugar and acid and all kinds of stuff to add to it. :smirk: We have a coffee maker that my dad bought for him to use while he was here (once a year) two Christmas's ago, and we got some Folgers Hazelnut coffee, so hhhm.... perhaps I should give it a go and start painting my kitchen...

Ewwwww...flavored Folgers is crap!  :puke:

No, no, no, you must buy the bulk beans, grind them in small amounts just before you make your coffee, and use one of the one-cup filter holder deals with unbleached filters.

BTW, best coffee EVAR:

Well Jesus fucking Christ, I'm not a professional or anything.

In fact, I just came to ask how much tablespoons of coffee to add for 4 cups of water...

And, yes, the concept of grinding the beans right beforehand and everything like that is one that intrigues me... in fact, I already have the coffee bean grinder, just need to clean all of that brown rice flour out of it....

Seriously, though, how much? This is my first time.
