Best strain for sporing a field?
    #5838047 - 07/09/06 08:13 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I live in upstate NY. Would my strain of choice to spore a field be Panaeolus subbalteatus? I will be injecting apples with spores and throwing them into the field; hopefully the cows will feast. Would it be better for me to inject a lot of apples with few spores or a few apples with a lot of spores?

It would be better for you to just try and grow mushrooms yourself. This idea, while inspired, is kooky

I have grown them myself already (much thanks to this forum). I would like to try to get this field growing though.

Man ... Get this... It has been told to you in that other thread you raised from the dead...

You live in the wrong claimant! Cubes wont grow from you going out and dumping spoor in a open field.. You can not just go out and seed a Field... YOU CANT!

Your Apple idea is absurd!

Pan Subs don't grow straight from Cow SHIT!!

What you may be able to do is a prepared outdoor grow with colonized jars..
You can go to the grow log forum and READ up on outdoor grows...

But if you think that you can just get spoor and spread them out and wham bam thank you mam mushrooms will grow you are high as a kite and don't need any mushrooms...

You must start reading! You must start educating yourself! And stop being naive about where and when you can grow mushrooms...
You would have better luck looking for Pan Subs rather than trying to spoor a field with them..

And why would you want to do all of this when it will take 3 to 4 times the amount of Pan Subs to equal that of 1 Cube trip?

Did you know that Pan Subs are a week trip less you have a ass load of them...

Did you know Cubensis are more potent?

Do you know anything or are you just asking the same fucking question ..
You get answers here but I feel you don't retain the information others are giving you!!!!

yessup. i know that pan subbs are a lot less potent then cubes. you ask me why i dont grow cubes... cause i dont live in the right fucking lcimate, like you also said. dont ask me a question that you have already anwsered yourself. 2nd of all, why dont i grow indoors or just go looking for pan subbs.... i dont have the fucking time. wish i did. 3rd, i have seen other pan strains growing from horse shit so i figured cow shit would suffice.

This is a long term investment, i dont plan on sporeing the field and comming back in 3 weeks. i plan on comming back in 3 years.

you got any other shit to say to me?

Good luck with your massive Pan Sub Grow thinge with cow shit and spoor inoculated apples!

See ya in 4 years! :mushroom2:

That inoculated apple idea is absolutely brilliant.... wish I would of thought about it. Maybe I'll try oranges or bananas instead though. Or maybe even a watermelon. Or maybe I'll just squirt some spores into a cows mouth... just to make sure.

Allright allright, maybe this belonged in the experimental mycology section. Ive been to places in NY and seen a few fields out there. As far as sporulating a field for permanent shroom production, i would imagine that is impossible. PErhaps you could spawn grain or BRF to poo and then layer that all over some of the poos in the area. the hope being that other poos recieve spores once the planted ones fruit, and the cows begin to injest the spores from the grass they eat. the bad side is that it often freezes for long periods in NY, and i think that would inhibit long term mycelial maintnence. I think youd have better luck inoculating the hay all around a barn area or stable.

YEssup, Panaeolus subbalteatus does grow m form cow shit. MMitchnast had a field in Nova Scotia. I picked them in Kent in Cow manure (Close Encounters of the panaeolus Kind. They are rare in cow fields but do appear ocassionaly. MOst fields may have one or two dung heaps with some Subbalteatus in them but usually never enough for a trip.

However, some fields as the one I found on Maui up the haleakala volcano produced most fo the pies with either subbalteatus or Copelandia cyanescens.

Their main habitat is rotted and composting hay and in haystackls, ones usually left out all winter to to compost. A good example is at the mj shroom site in numerous photos taken by Angry Shroom. Probably the best of allt he Subb pictures anywhere on the net.

I would also like to point out that it is called the 'weed' mushroom for its adaptability to grow most anywhere int eh world.

Int he early 1900s when it was first dicovered to cause a reaction in humans, it popped up in commercial beds of edible mushrooms, expecially in farms ont eh east coast of america. Soon, the cultivators learned about its properties and had to hire extra help to weed the mushroom out.
as for apple feeding, me and a few feriends tried this in Hawaii several times in different forms, Salting the feed with spores, apple chunks with spores in the feed, letting cattle lick the salt off of your hands which were wiped with sporeprints.

And nothing ever grew.

mj

But they do appear in manure as I noted above.

mj
