I just had to dump 18 jars of wbs.The 8 quarts were green so I know what that is but all my pint jars just looked unhealthy,I'm not sure how to explain it but they looked like there was some sort of tan gooey stuff making the birdseed stick to the jars,it was hard to get off the jars when I dumped them. And it smelled absolutely horrible almost sweet smelling,it nearly made me gag.I was careful to flame and alcohol my needle after every jar and I used my PC and wore a mack, gloves, and everything.Any idea what this is and how to avoid it in the future

It sounds like a bacterial contamination as you probably already suspected. Try seeping your wbs for 24 hours at room temperature before PCing. A lot of people also probably neglect to consider what elevation they are at for proper PCing. The higher the elevation the higher the pressure required to reach the magical 250 degrees. Double check your technique and last your inoculant.

you described bacillus. a bacterial infection. makes the grains wet and sloppy. wet spot.
soak your wbs for 24 hours to germinate the bacterial endospores. rinse the grains very good before putting them in jars. make sure the jars are not too wet. bacteria loves wet condtions.
do not incubate over 80 degrees. wbs jars will generate up to 6 degrees of their own heat.
pressure cook at a full 15 psi for 90 minutes.
wear a medical grade mask.
do all of my other suggestions previously mentioned in other threads.

WET SPOT is your problem.
PC'ed wbs should look like above.
NO water should POOL in the bottom of the jars.
If the WBS is TO WET, you get WET SPOT bacteria.
Next time DRAIN the WBS BETTER.

Actually, I think the biggest cause of bacterial contamination comes from the breath of the cultivator. This becomes especially true with grain jars that must be opened to insert an agar wedge or other inoculant. Always wear gloves to protect your spawn from the germs and bacteria under your fingernails that doesn't wash out, then brush your teeth and use mouthwash just before going to work. Invest in a package of surgical masks. Dust masks are useless, so be sure to get yours from a pharmacy supply and make sure they're labeled 'surgical'. That means they're designed to protect a patient from the doctor's germs. RR
