MLB questions

-Why do teams play so many regular season games? Most sports leagues have an 82 game season that numerically creates a balanced clinch for successful teams in the post season. The MLB post season also only has 3 series, one of them only a 5 game series despite a long regular season.

-Why did the MLB ban the image of baseballs on uniforms?

-Why do they have such strict broadcasting rules (blackouts, etc)?

-Outfield walls. Why does the league allow some parks to have lower or higher walls than others?

-Conferences. Why does the National League have 16 teams while the American league only has 14? Why don't they go 15/15?

-Divisions. Why do they have the wild card format in the playoffs? Doesn't the MLB have a postseason clinch?

-Finally, why the Office of Inquisition in regard to drug use? No other pro sport league is as big on this as Major League Baseball it seems

You can play baseball everyday. Hockey and basketball not so much. Football only has 16. It just depends how much of a beating there is. My personal preference would be for hockey and basketball to cut out one round of playoffs. You shouldn't have half the teams in. A quarter is more like it to me. It makes the regular season more meaningful. The five game series is bullshit and sucks.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I can watch just about every single Yankee and Met games, sellout or not

The league likes the idea that different parks have different conditions and so do I. You can build your team to suit your park, but then when you go on the road it may not necessarily fit so well.

Because Selig is an idiot. He even moved his team from the AL to the NL to accomodate some expansion notion a while back. I repeat, Selig is an idiot.

I have no idea what a "clinch" is. They like the wild card, it's kind of a safety for very good teams in a tough division. It is not rare for the wild card team to have the second best record in the league and a weak division winner to have a record comparable to a third place team in another division

Actually, I think they are just getting a lot of coverage because they were much later to this than the other leagues. The other leagues have been far more stringent with this stuff. This relates to relative strngths of the unions. Baseball's is very strong, hockey and football weak, basketball in the middle
