LC Shelf-life?
    #5836664 - 07/08/06 07:36 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Hey shroomerites...I was just wondering, how long is an LC still viable if kept in the freezer?

Yea, you'd end up with broken jars probably.

well...broken jars wouldn't really be so much an issue as the dead myc. The jars would only break if I dont put any form of gas exchange in it...which...would be kinda impossible, given my level of knowledge with LC's...which mind you...isn't much.

i think that Mycellium can be frozen, after all, it survives harsh winters.

however, it keeps very well in the fridge, so freezing is completely unneccessary.

IIRC, freezing cells that contains water will cause ice crystals to form, destroying the cell wall.

You should add some sort of cryoprotectant, like glycerin, if you're going to freeze myc. It can survive freezing though.

yes, but you can freeze a bee and bring it back to life, as well as frogs, fish, and several other living things.

Some of the cells would die certainly but some would survive.

I would think its more work then its worth though, your better off just throwing it in the fridge or just makeing a new LC.
