Just about everyone loves some good humor and I try to indulge in as much humor as I can in my daily life, just to keep me sane mostly. For instance I am a pretty faithful Daily Show and Colbert Report viewer because they constantly rip on the dumb things politicians do. I also like Conan O'Brien for his sharp and wacky sense of humor.

But when it comes to the internet, it just seems like the bar gets dropped to almost unbearable levels. It seems like everyone wants to be a comedian these days and there are sites popping up constantly, perhaps feeding an obsession, with slapstick or shock value comedy that just wreaks of desperation. You know, pictures of people passed out drunk with marker all over them, small children being attacked by cats, etc.

Now I'm sure some people probably love this specific type of humor (it works particularly well when posting pictures on message boards for instance), but doesn't it get old to anyone? Am I crazy or is it harder and harder to find comedy that is worth its weight in gold?

I'd like this thread to be a discussion about the progression of comedy during the Information Age, where you think it might be headed, and where you might go to find intelligent and well-crafted humor (please don't say collegehumor.com - the majority of material that gets put up on that site is plain retarded).

I really don't find it too funny either. Its mostly for 12 year old kids and 40 year old ladies.

It's all opinion...I don't find Conan to be funny but annoying. Same for John Stuart (sp?) and the rest of the Daily Show crew. I'm not interested in politics, though, so that may be a part of it. But even those two "comedians" have their sketches that involve shock-value humor.

Humor is humor. Some have a taste for it while others claim to be above it or too mature for it. Now, there are times that people do cross the line and become distasteful, but really humor is about experimentation. Trial and error. When people laugh the line between humor and distaste begins to blur. If you don't think it's funny; do your part and don't laugh.

Watching a comedy genius like Conan O'Brien can make other comedy much less interesting.

No offense to anyone, but my own experience living with many different people has led me to the observation-based conclusion that those who are unfond of "immature" humor have an ingrained sensibility that disallows them from this plateu (if it can be called that) of enjoyment. :mattz:

Guys, go back and re-read my original post. I'm talking about comedy on the internet... i.e. where to find GOOD comedy on the internet. There are enough sites out there that cater to 15 year olds, but they run a lot of garbage as well.

I'm not interested in debating what defines humor, I know its subjective, but if you think writing good humor is so easy, might you explain why is being a comedian (standup or writer) such a hard job? Believe it or not, it DOES take talent and a level of intelligence to come up with good stuff consistently.

I guess thats the keyword... I want a site that has consistently good content. I'm sick of mediocrity.

I don't know of any good humorous websites. Only otd, but it's like playing baseball compared to watching baseball. It's alot more fun to play than watch.
