Cheap lighting

Hey all, I'm just looking for some suggestions on a cheap light to use in my fruiting chambers. I have one of those circular push-on/off lights mounted on the lid to my FC but it takes 4 AA batteries and it only lasts me about 8 hours! My last alternative will be to cut a whole in the lid and place in some plexi...but I would prefer not to have to do that.
Thanks for the input!

you don't need plexiglass, just cut a hole in the top and use a sheet of plastic-wrap. or you can get fancy like me and take a smaller clear tub and cut a hole in the lid of your FC and silicone-seal the smaller tub onto the hole...

I think the plexi would just be a little more clean and take up less space. Thanks for the suggestion! As I said, I am kind of holding out on modifying the FC lid for now unless I don't get any suggestions for a cheap light (outlet or battery *not battery HOG*).
Thanks!

heh, you can get an extension cord with a light socket at the end, and just hook up a cool white compact flourescent bulb to it and dangle it inside your fc... that's pretty ghetto

then no. unless you do the LED lighting tek, which involves soldering, etc. batteries are going to run out after a said amount of time. even flashlights don't last 8 hours. why can't you just cut a hole in the lid of your FC? you don't need plexiglass, just use anything clear! i have clear plastic everywhere in my apartment... i have clear plastic sterilite shoe boxes, and clear plastic ziplock food dishes, clear plastic seran wrap, etc etc... and in fact, it doesn't have to even be clear, light just needs to be able to penetrate it, so cheap white sterlite lids, etc, etc, etc...

buy a night light and an extension cord ($1 each from walmart). Then get tinfoil or metal tape and put it on the lid as a reflector. Then just glue the extension cord to the foil/tape. Run the extension cord out of your FC and just plug it in. i have noticed that with this method the shrooms grow taller than normally, probably due to the less light output. Instead of the night light u can get a two pronged light bulb to AC plug adapter and use a low wattage compact fluorescent instead.

Faraday flashlight. It comes with a blue bulb in it. Doesnt take batterys. You shake it back and fourth to create and energy needed to power the light. They arent very powerful bulbs less than 10W which is perfect considering mushys dont use light for energy or nutrients its simply a fruiting trigger. 5 bucks wally world. As long as you can move your arm it will work.

also a store called fred meyer by my house has 6 inch flourescent lights that operate on 8 AA batteries... but they only run for 12 hours before running out, meaning 8 AA batteries every day = 6 bucks a day for lighting... versus cutting a hole in your lid :P

I've gotten many other good suggestions besides cutting a whole in it. I don't know why you want to convince me so badly to cut a hole in it but again like I said I was saving that for last case-scenario.
Thanks again to all and I will post what I rig up.
