ok i kno you guys shouldnt have to read my beginner question, but no one could / would answer it in the beginner section of this board. maybe i confused them or this has never come up before there. after i get my frist flush from my cakes and one casing, i have to leave town for three days. no one will be around to take care of the fanning for the second flush. is it harmful if i put the cakes back in the jars and cover the casing and put it into the fridge for three days while im gone. id rather not throw them away after the first flush. thanks for the help. late.

Tough call, that's why you didn't get an answer from beginners. I say leave the cakes, they'll be fine. You may have some overmature fruits, but that's all. Even at that, just harvest anything of size b4 you leave and you should be alright. The casing will likely contam with no air flow, and fridges aren't really good places for casings. They don't recover well, and friges are dirty. I think I'd sow a little grass seed on it, cover it with an extra layer of casing and put it outside. Or, depending on the casing, move it away from the cakes. Make some type of humidity tent for it that is open to some airflow (esp. at the top and near casing surface) from plastic bags or something. Let it take care of itself, away from the cakes. Spray it before you leave and hope, should still fruit. Casings and cakes like different paramaters anyway, so you should remove it from the cake tererium even if you stay in town.

what anno says....clean up that fridge.. I use a 50/50 mix of 3% peroxide and water...new spray bottle.. put your trays or jars or whatever into new garbage bags.... the mycelia will take a little recovery time....depending..and then after that cold shock...who knows what may come forth....farmer, and luck - out--- ....when I came out of the woods I found myself standing in a little field of gold coins......so I picked them all....." not the end of this story....

I trust anno. I just never had much success the few times I took a casing post first flush and tried to stall it in the fridge. it just never recovered right, but I only tried it a couple of times. If anno does it regularly, then maybe I just had a fluke. Or maybe my fridge was set too cold/not cold enough...
