How do you format an Ipod?

I see no option to do so with Itunes. I loaded up "Help" and searched for "format" and nothing pops up. I looked in the manual and it says nothing. This damn MP3 player is a disk drive and one of the most basic things you can do with a disk drive is format it....yet there is no option to do so with Itunes? That doesn't make any sense. I'm afraid to format it manually because it might erase some important hidden files or something.
Warning....MP3 player rantings ahead:
Ipod earbuds suck balls. They didn't sound very good and they failed after a year. I then bought a $20 pair of Philips earbuds and they suck even worse. The bass is woofy and unbearable and what is it with all of the earbuds nowadays having to be wedged in your ear hole? They are uncomfortable as hell and they fucking fall out after 5 minutes. At least the Ipod earbuds sat in your ear and rarely came out.
Why are there so many crappy MP3 player products? The earbuds and the players themselves are so full of crappy engineering and idiosyncratic flaws.
[/end rant]

You will never find "earbud" style headphones that produce quality sound. It simply isn't possible without changing the basic laws of physics. I am actually amazed at how "good" the earbud (type headphones) sound, given their small size. If you want good sound, you have to get larger headphones. The headphones I use with my iPod cost almost as much as the iPod.

Lame-ass update:
The Ipod startup/installation program tells me to plug my Ipod in to see if it "needs formatted". It then proceeds to tell me that it doesn't need formatted. Bitch...it shouldn't matter if it needs it or not. I should be able to format the thing whenever I want to.
It's no big deal though. I got all of my old music deleted and I got my new shit on it.
