newbie question: any hope for drowned substrate jars

My first shot at sterilizing substrate jars, but I put in too much water and the bottom jars are now filled with thick goop. Is it worth trying to fluff them up and reprocess, or are they now doomed to failure and should be cleaned out to start again from scratch? I don't have much vermiculite to waste right now.

vermiculite is cheap.
my vote is to start over.
better yet, switch to grains and learn a monotub tek.

I agree I would start over. would you rather buy new rice, verm or inoc these have them fail and have the spores and time you put into it lost?

Thanks for the hint. I've discarded the goop and preparing the popcorn now instead. Also making plans for a monotub. Had some trouble finding polyfill, but I think I have it now. Will be cool if it all works. Who knew popcorn could be so much fun?

As a follow-up, I retained a few jars of the vermiculite goop (I should have covered the lids with foil in the PC!) to try along with the popcorn, and they both worked fine. Absolutely fascinating to see it in action... The popcorn seems to work better. The goop still performed OK wherever I was able to get a little air between it and the glass. A couple samples I tried did nothing in either the goop or the popcorn, failing in every jar after at best faint signs of life. But the one sample that worked (Albino from Sporeworks) did very well in both kinds of jars. I now have plenty of albino to play with, and some very nice replacement spores to try soon.

PPS... they were all contaminated. Doah! Lessons learned: Cover lids with foil during PC; grain is good for incubation... better than PF?; NEVER use a glove-box with a fan INSIDE a hepa-filter (doah!!) because the filter doesn't allow enough air to pass through, and so draws in air from unfiltered corners of the glove box which is the cause of contamination. Unsterilized perlite may contribute to contamination (?)...
And the most important question.... Is Orient Bay better than Sandy Hook for nude bathing????
