black spots caused by water
    #5833225 - 07/07/06 08:04 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

My first grow is almost ready to be harvested. The veils have not quite broke yet. Some of the mushrooms have black spots on them, it's not from spores, RR thinks it is probably water damage from a water droplet from my mister. Would these mushrooms still be OK to eat? Thanks for any help!

I don't see why not. Sometimes my dishes come out with water spots on em, but I don't throw them away. To me, it's the same principle.
Peace

Didn't you already make a thread about this?

Edit: Correction 2 other threads...

The one thread was about a different casing that had different marks and had a slimy appearance. The second thread which RR responded to was with a different casing and did not have any slime on the mushrooms like the other thread. So it seemed like it was a different problem. RR answered my question and identified it as possible water damage from a drop out of the mister. I just wanted to see if these mushrooms were still edible. I did a search and was unable to find my answer so that is why I asked the question.

RR said they'll be fine. He said if it's slimy or otherwise looks like it could be bacteria contaminated, a simple boiling into tea will make them safe to consume. Thanks for the help!
