Old manure, still good?
    #5832966 - 07/07/06 06:47 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Hey all, I've had some dry Tenn stud manure hanging around for a few months. I've been so busy that I never got around to using it. Anyways, I was wondering whether it would still be good to use. It smells significantly stronger than it did when I first received it, I'm thinking that maybe some bacteria have proliferated over the past few months. Shouldnt'pasteurization take care of any contaminants? Thanks for the help.

Should still be good. I've got some year old horse poo I'm about to use. Been sitting in my car port. It now has fire fang all over it.

Hydrate it (squeeze test method), place in a plastic bag, place bag in pot of 160F water (use a weight to hold it down - if need be), let it steep for a few hours with a candy thermometer inserted in the bag - to monitor the temperature (stay between 145 & 165F). Remove the bag & allow to cool to room temperature. Simple as that.
