I Think I may have a winner
    #5831064 - 07/07/06 11:05 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Habitat - Growing in dewy grass, alone or in twos and threes, northwest america

Characteristics of the gills - Red/Rust, orangish, attached, and somewhat close together, very contrasted to the cap (can see the white in between each gill from the cap)

Characteristics of the stem - Long (for the size of the cap i suppose) very thin and stringy, white, somewhat shiny (almost silver)

Characteristics of the cap - Very pale yellowish brown(some where completely white) the tip portrudes, and is usually darker in color, very thin flesh, verticle lines(indents) running along the whole cap

Spore print color - Still waiting on results

Color that the mushroom bruises - Slightly Observed in Handling(Dark brown/purple/Gray)

Scent of the mushroom - None Observed

Other Notes - Very weak and thin (stem, cap, gills). After handling for a few minutes the cap became darker. The cap seems like it is draped over the stem, very very thin, almost barely sustaining its own weight and can easily be moved. I have an idea what it might be, but it's a 50/50

Also sorry about the crappy picture (and keep in mind that the orange you see is the color of the gills)(cap seems darker in the picture than observed in real life)

What he said. Conocybe, probably lactea. Some conocybes are poisonous, some deadly so. What kind of winner did you think you had?

its ok... I find mushrooms that have no use for me all the time... at first I was posting pics of conocybes, coprinus, xylarias, and psathyrellas... now i can ID those, and I work from there, as those are the most common ones I find...

No worries Helpme1.  Just having a little fun at your expense   Your description and picture were fine, which is how we were able to make such a quick ID for you.  Plus, this common lawn mushroom is everywhere right now as CureCat said, so it's good for everyone to know what it looks like.  Don't be discouraged and keep looking!!

CureCat, winner in the special olympics?  That shit made me just about fall out of my chair in the coffee shop I'm sitting in right now!

these are everywhere right now, last week there were a good 5000 of them in my backyard, all sprouted from new topsoil. There were also some mycenas, inocybes and 1 that really looked like a liberty cap although i know it wasnt, but i wish i had a pic of it to show you guys.
