DAZED AND CORNFUZED
    #582964 - 03/19/02 01:30 AM (22 years, 8 months ago)

this is my second post and i really didnt want to post,i held out thinking i would figure it out considering everybody ask the same questions and gets the same anwsers
heres my situation all of my trays are friuting and pinning on rye grain spawn, but they just dont look right (i think)they are little skinny shrooms probably aborts and its taken 1 to 2 weeks just to get the tallest ones a half of and inch
Now i know what your probably going to say :Humidity to low,not enough fresh air,to much co2,not enough light, temp to high\low
I have read back and forth paul staments book and read a butt load of post ,teks any kind of info on shroomsand i know that there isn't any one way of doing it but there has to be a trick, secret or tek that does it for you every time.and i know when i am succesfull i will will not detour from what works best .there has to be a FULL PROOF TEK ON PIN INTIATION AND FRUITING besides just drop temp, reduce co2,add lightand fresh air, maintain high humidity,(Im doing all of the above without the desirable results)
I know that their our things you have to learn on you own because just following a recipe dont always do it till you have revized it your self and once you get it you know what works for you .If you detour just a little bit it wont work out the same
this whole adventure has been trial and error (do i sound frustrated)
For example I can can make fully collinized rye grain spawn (1 quart ) in 10 days but that took me months to figure out how to get the moistoir content -JUST- right, because face it thats what its all about.TO DRY,TO WET AND YOUR FINISHED.youve just wasted your time preparing that jar of grain or jars. Now i can get every jar to turn out every time FULL PROOF TEK ON RYE GRAIN SPAWN
so i offer all of the newbies or anybody this blueprint in exchange for a full proof method of pinning and fruiting.

FIRST I PREPARE THE RYE GRAIN BY BRINGING DISTILLED WATER TO A BOIL 2CUPS TO 1 CUP OF GRAIN.ONCE THE WATER IS BOILING ADD THE GRAIN AND TURN DOWN THE HEAT TO 2 OR 3 (SIMMERING).LET IT SIMMER WITH THE LID ON FOR 45 TO 50 MIN STIRRING OCASIONALY
WHILE GRAIN IS SIMMERING WASH YOUR JARS AND LIDS (1 QUART WIDE MOUTHS) REAL GOOD IN THE SINK,RINSE,THEN LAY THEM UPSIDE DOWN ON A CLEAN TOWEL CLOSE TO THE SINK.NOW I GET MY PRESSURE COOKER AND PUT ABOUT 2 INCHES OF WATER IN IT AND SET IT ON THE STOVE (NO HEAT JUST YET)WHEN MY RYE GRAIN HAS FINISHED COOKING I GET A SPAGHETTI STRAINER WITH SMALL HOLES AND PUT IT IN THE SINK.DRAIN THE RYE GRAIN AND TAKE A BIG COOKING SPOON AND JUST FILL THE JARS ABOUT 80% FULL.PUT THE LIDS ON UPSIDE DOWN WITH THE RUBBER PART UP THEN PUT THE RINGS ON THE LIDS
NOW START THE HEAT ON PRESSURE COOKER ON HIGH.PLACE JARS IN THE COOKER AND PUT LID ON,WHEN YOU HAVE 15 PSI THEN BRING THE HEAT DOWN TO 5 OR 6. PRESSURE COOK FOR 1 HOUR.LET IT COOL DOWN .THEN TAKE JARS OUT WITH 2 HAND TOWLES (1 FOR EACH HAND) AND SHAKE BACK AND FORTH A LITTE BIT.ONCE THEY HAVE COLLED ALL THE WAY DOWN (ROOM TEMP)THEN INNOCULATE IN STERILE CONDITIONS
I HAVE TAKEN THE SPORE PRINT AND JUST SCRAPED ABOUT 10% OF IT INTO THE JAR AND THAT WORKS GREAT WITH A STERILE SCAPEL
I HAVE TAKEN A JAR OF SPAWN AND PUT A SMALL HAND FULL INTO EACH NEW JAR AND THAT WORKS GREAT TOO, BUT THE TRICK IS TO REALLY SHAKE THEM.SHAKE THEM FOR AT LEAST A 1 MIN. OR 2 ,THE LONGER THE BETTER
THIS IS A FULL PROOF WAY THAT WORKS EVERY TIME IT GIVES YOU A PROPER MOISTURE CONTENT THAT IS IMPARATIVE TO GROWING OUT YOUR JARS AND BY REALLY SHAKING YOUR JARS AFTER INNOCULATING THEM YOU WILL SEE A MAJOR DIFFERANCE IN COLINIZATION, 10 TO A 11 DAYS
MY QUESTION IS CAN ANYBODY FILL IN THE BLANKS FOR ME ON PINNING AND FRUITNG.SOMETHING THAT YOUVE LEARNED FROM TRIAL AND ERROR THAT YOU KNOW IT WORKS EVERY TIME FOR YOU, IT MIGHT BE A SMALL LITTLE TECHNIQUE BUT YOU KNOW THAT IT IS IMPARATIVE FOR YOURSELF TO APPLY THIS OR YOU WONT GET THE DESIRED RESULTS. FULL PROOF.FULL PROOF FULL PROOF
THANKS FOR READING THIS ,IF YOUR STILL AWAKE

>MY QUESTION IS CAN ANYBODY FILL IN THE BLANKS FOR ME ON PINNING AND FRUITNG.
Questions:
- What casing do you use?
- Do you pasteurize/sterilize it?
- What is the water content of your casing?
- How thick do you apply the casing layer?
- How thick is the substrate layer?
- How does the surface of the casing layer look loke(flat, valleys..)?
- What is your means of humidificaton and air exchange?
- What is the temperatue you fruit the casings at?
- Do you let the casings incubate after applying the casing layer? How long?
- How much light do the casings get?

....

i used topsoil and i sterilized it by baking in the oven for two hours.
the moisture content was about 75% and the casing about 1 inch
the subrstrate varys from tray to tray some at 1 half inch some at 1,2,3,i have milk jugs cut in half and i used i quart of spawn to do to 2 milk trays and 1 full quart to do about 1 square foot tray (substrate)regular tray (plastic)
for humidification i have two fruiting chambers with perlite in them. The first one is about 10 square foot, a plastic tent about 3 and a half foot tall with about 4 inches of perlite in it and who knows how much water has been put in the perlite to keep it moist (started with three gallons and still add about a gallon here and thier to
keep the humidity up.) I still have to mist the tent every day or humidity drops
In the ten gallon aquarium i have perlite that keeps a constent humidty above 90%. I have 5 cakes in their,3 dunked.I have a spray sheild in their and i spray and fan every day ,same as the big one (tent)
for air exchange i have a air pump with a co2 dispersal hose attached to it and a filter on the hose to maintain fresh air, plus i fan still just to make sur that co2 is departing. I have a negative ion generator hoooked to the tent to help with contaminates and co2 dispersal. As far as the 10 gallon AQ. i just fan twice a day
Both chambers are at room temp for fruiting
Yes, I let the mycelium reach the valleys around 50%before fruiting because i waited around 90% and i ended up with overlay , so i had to scratch with fork just to save that one it turn up pinning great but primordia growth very weak and slow same as all of the other trays
As far as light i use a flourecent grow baulb (purple)from any where for 10 to 12 hours a day.
Ive heard of people saying that they have pinns on there cakes at 24 hrs after dunking. I dunked for 12 hrs in the fridge in a jar of water and placed back in the 10 gallon AQ been 2 and half days still no pinns and the cakes were in the 10 gallon for 3 days prior to dunking.
To adress road kill :who knows what you are talking about(You forgot to tell him to lose the caps...lolz

We aren't blind !! It is peolple like you who give this forum a bad rap if you are so smart you should just stick to the advanced forum and get off of annos jock(suck ass)

You say U use perlite in conjunction with casings....

Generally perlite will give you too much himidity if used with casings, so you might change that.
Also colonize the casings less time after the casing(if at all9 to get less overlay.

thanks for reply anno
i use perlite in the bottom of my tent for humidity for some reason i cant get a hygrometer to work right i have 3 and i know 2 dont work but the one that i think works says its about 80% which still is low so i wonder even if it is working,
I have condensation all over the tent which leads me to believe that im above 90% so i have been going on my gut feeling that im fine.
I think what happened is my casing dried out from low humidity early in the game causing overlay plus waiting to long to fruit .Last night i built a setup like
(details)i know that not how you spell his name but its close .With the racks and a cover made out of pvc. He said it derived from your setup,so i guess ill give it a shot . Im hoping to eleminate more co2 that way .It just seems like you all have bigger shrooms then others i seen ,
QUESTION: How long do you fan a perticular tray, cake ,terrium ,or in my case i would take the cover off and fan for?
#2 is their a such thing as too much light, If so what would happen?,should i run my light the same exact time every day or does it even matter when they get 6 to 12 hrs. somtimes i go to bed and turn light on and its on for quite awhile before turned off,So when i feel (dont exactly know)like they have had 12hr of darkness I turn the light back on. Inturn the light gets put on at a different time every day.
thanks again, hope to here from you
