Hello everyone. I'm Mason, AKA Ereignis. Ereignis is a greek word that doesn't have a good translation into English. Martin Heidegger used the word in some of his later philosophy, and it has shaped my thinking as well. Some translators of Heidegger render Ereignis as "the event of appropriation (of self by being)." It's also been rendered as "en-owning," the moment when Being lays claim to self and takes ownership of it. I'm new to psychedelics in general, having tripped for the first time about a month ago in Amsterdam. I'm an experienced meditator and have long considered myself to be a psychonaut, a mind sailor, but I'd never tried mushrooms because they're illegal and I've just never had access to them. However, on the trip in Amsterdam, (which I have yet to repeat), I found the experience to be profound and as real as anything else I've experienced. As my guru put it, "reality is reality." There's only one reality, and though I think mushrooms are a less perfect way to get there than meditation (because less permanent, and because they leave you groggy the next day), I still see them as a legitimate option in man's spiritual toolbox - a little like training wheels, or a road sign. There's no way to communicate reality or pure being via language, but, at least for me, ingesting mushrooms makes it easier to focus on the same. Joining us in our affirmation of the legitimacy of psychopharmacological substances are the Zen Buddists, who recommend tea not only for its taste but also because, as a stimulant, it is useful for those who are striving for greater awakening. (Ultimately one learns through meditation that spiritual awakening is literally just waking up from our daily existence, which is little better than a walking sleep.)
To make this interesting, I'm going to copy a journal entry I wrote while peaking on shrooms in Amsterdam. I hope you enjoy it, because it's a part of me.
June 1, Some time at night How fitting it is to start a new month with an entry like this one. I feel new today. Old people call this feeling "being young again." I feel myself right now. Whatever I focus my attention on becomes my world. At the edges of my vision the scene dims to black, exactly how children's books are illustrated! In truth our field of vision (as it is called, but is it at all like a field?) is shaped like a football, an extradimensional football...Let's get back to some other thoughts I've had sitting here, on the corner of the bed in our apartment in Amsterdam. First of all I think I have developed a lovely "hand" as they call it, that is handwriting. Here in this entry I think it has acheived its peak effect. From now on I'm going to use this lovely black pen whenever possible. The black ink on the creamy paper is striking. It seems to say, "Here is writing. Here is thought. Here on these pages, people are being born into the only real world.".....(next page). Yes, I'm shrooming right now. As I look at my hand grasping the journal to hold it in place, and as I look at my right hand, holding the pen as it is, I am struck by their size. They seem disproportional, somehow, to my body. I am reminded of the Mannerist movement, of Michelangelo's David. What is the connection between clear perception and large hands? The effect is acheived (to use Heidegger's expression for perception) as I lean in close to write this. I had the original thought earlier that what I am feeling on shrooms is exactly what it's like to be 5 years old again. The world strikes us in its nowness, in its present being. And, being struck the nowness, the newness, is Being. The world manifests itself to humans exclusively as extended aphorisms, each human everywhere deciphering for himself the meaning of each self contained nut of speech, of language, and with natural breaks and pauses as well. The world comes to rest in a natural language which must like at the fundament of any possible meaning.
What the hell am I writing and who am I writing it to? WHY? WHY? WHY! Why the world? The world is why. AND NOW,
the end.

Hi Mason, welcome to the shroomery. This is one of the coolest introductions I've read in a while. I'm glad you finally got to experience what the mushroom has to offer and I hope any future endeavors provide equally enlightening experience.
