I've heard that if i can't fine Vermiculite i can use perlite instead for my cakes...is this true? and if so, does it reduce quality/quantity?

no...deffinitely dont do that. The perlite doesn't hold moisture even NAERLY as long as verm. Although, you do not HAVE to have fine verm for your cakes...you can use coarse, just expect a couple more days as far as colonization time (from what I hear)
though there are some who actually prefer growing on medium to coarse verm cakes.

doesn't matter what vermiculite you get, if it's coarse, you can just break it up with your hands or put it in a blender... it breaks up really easily between your fingers

LOL liam that was the best shroom school.
Reminds me of when all us shroomerites were debating over having to pass a test in order to post questions, proving they read the FAQ's first.
Mind if I use your line in reply's to noob questions?
Tank, listen to liam!
good luck!!!

go ahead, some people just need to read the faq... it's not that hard. there's also an IRC server... irc.shroomery.org (port 9999 for secure connection)
in the #cultivation channel there's plenty of people ready and willing to school a noob or two who haven't read the faq
