Any idea here?
    #5828378 - 07/06/06 05:00 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

It's like mycelium, it appears to be climbing up the blades of grass, and expanding, I've been watching it for a few weeks and there _may_ be some pinning but I'm not confident on that.

It's coming out of the soil, and there are several patches of it around a single tree.

Any help?

Nope.  It really looks and feels (I poked it a bit  ) like mycelium.  I'm just waiting for the thing to pin, but, does anyone know of an above-ground species like this?

Oh, I understand your question now!

I do not think this type of growth is characteristic of any particular species.  Who knows, possibly any grass/soil growing mushroom with snow white mycellium.  Hopefully it fruits so we can see pics of what it is.

I thought at first it might be from Spittle bugs, but looks too thick...I dunno.

Hahaha, that was what I thought it could have been too, but I figured that no one else knew them by the same name!
Yeah, and also, it seemed a bit thick, and normally I find spittle bug nests in branches rather than dirt and grass.

This is covering smallish patches in a horse field I visited yesterday.  It does have the consistency of mycellium and I got excited when I saw it; hope I didn't jump the gun and assume what isn't so.  It was growing right beside some horse crap right on the ground.

I think I'll go back and take pictures of the progress every few days and if it is, indeed, mycellium I think it would make a cool timeline of growth to post.

BTW, I followed the link to check out the spittle bug....Who else got in trouble for doing that during church when they were little?
