how long to let spores soak?
    #582813 - 03/18/02 10:09 PM (21 years, 11 months ago)

In all the teks I've read about making spore syringes from prints they all say to let the spores soak in the water in the syringes for at 12 hours to rehydrate and i was wondering if 12 hours is really all that nessacsary and if it would make that big of a difference if I only waited 8 hours.

Id say to just wait it out for at LEAST 12. You dont want to go and waste all your time and effort and waste your spores by just not waiting... If you havent read this already this hobbie really works your "paticience"....

This is a myth. You don't need to "re-hydrate" spores at all.

You can use them immediately after preparing your suspended spore solution. I've noticed little to no difference comparing spores that were a couple years old to ones that were a week old.

Ive heard lots about spores not workign due to the fact they are not hydrated....I guess I have never tried just putting htem in the solution and injecting...but seems to me it would make sense for them to become hydrated... ? :/

Some people get results by scraping a dry print into a jar. I would never try this for other obvious reasons but, if they had to be hydrated, it wouldn't work at all.
Just my thoughts.:peace:

I'm never usually in that big of a hurry.

Once you get settlet and in a groove.

You kind of get on a schedule. So there is generally no hurry for colonized jars or spores or sterllized substrate.

I try to spend about an hour a day doing somehting. Either preparing jars and Pressure cooking them. Or making prints, Harvesting and drying, Preparing casings, blah blah blah.

Patience is a virtue
