I went out this afternoon for a short while, and had my first succesful fungus expidition of the year. in about a half hour I found a few dozen healthy cyanescens and one little cubensis, which is the first whole one I've seen this season.
i don't have a digi handy and i'll probably consume them before i do, so no pics unfortunately; just wanted to let my fellow florida hunters know that the season is slowly gearing up.

You only found one cube? Did ya flick it? Haha, make sure you make a spore print and go back and spray a certain area, for yourself. Haha, can't wait till this season starts blowing up, the fields around here arnt too promising, Im hoping i wont have to make a road trip unless I really have too.. Thanks for the update.

Are you kidding? Flicking or thumping the caps of mushrooms is useless. It does not aid in the dispersal of spores.

i'm confident that there will be more than enough cubes to go around soon. the field i was in today was pretty dry, but humidity levels have been high enough to foster growth without heavy rain.
i did consider taking home the patty i found the cube on, but didn't bother to do so. the mycelial growth in this particular field was the best i've seen so far this season, really dense and well-developed. i'm expecting good things after the next rain.
oh, and after further inspection only a dozen or so of the alleged copelandia were actually so.
GG, help me out: what is the other species that bears similarities in color/shape/gloss to copes but does not blue? the copes seem to have wavy gills while the look-alikes had straight gills. they had glossy caps, pale tan/yellow coloring, seemed slightly larger than the average cope and with perhaps a slightly thicker stem. black spore print. some inactive panaeolus i'm guessing? all i know is I always pick them in hopes that they're massive copes and am dissapointed once i get home.

Panaeolus antillarum, inactive.

thanks whiteknight.
I found some more copes yesterday, just a handful or so, but it doesn't take much... headed back out today, maybe I'll get some pics this time.
