Wont flipping them get the dry verm barrier wet, taking away moisture from the cake that was so carefully measured in when the substrate was mixed? Peace Six

This is just my opinion but: When you put dry verm on damp substrate and pc it all, the verm isn't going to stay dry long. The fact that it's dry isn't what keeps the contams out. It's the fact that there nothing to eat on their way through the verm. After it's about half done a cake isn't so succeptable to contams. Flipping lets the co2 drain out the bottom and lets o2 in(because co2 is heavier than o2) so they finish faster. If you try it both ways you should see a noticable difference. Hope that helps. Thanks for the replys, no tape on my jars though although I do have a towel covering them in my incubator im taking this off now for about 2 hours a day to get some air exchange. I just flipped them too btw. Also about the top verm layer well my verm isnt exactly directly on top of my substrate for my cake in the Tek I used it said to make a pool of tin foil on top of your substrate (Ramsey seal method with foil). So I just filedl in the Ramsey seal and put my lids on then boiled jars for 2 hours - 0 contams - Only thing im worried about is the moisture theres droplets not pudles so its not out of the norm (luckily) - I was just worried when I saw the fog. Going to flip them tho and see what happens hopefully itll fix the moisture/fog build up and also speed up colonization ps my strain is thailand KS thanks for all the help

i usually flip them when there's full mycellium growth to let it get more light so there will be more potential for pinning.
